Hi, I'm putting my order together for my Jager from TOTW and have one final question (for now :hmm:)
What are your opinions on touch hole liners? My thinking is to go without one for now, and cone the hole from the inside a little instead. I figure in the worst case, if I bugger it, I can then drill and tap in a liner. So can anyone give me an objective opinion on liner vs. linerless?
While we're on the subject, regular (stainless) vs. lightnin vs. ampco bronze? What is preferrable? I'm assuming the stainless ones won't brown, which will look ugly on my rifle, does the bronze one fare any better as far as being hidden?
Thanks!

P.S. I realize that I'm new to the board, and this has probably been hashed and rehashed to death! I did a search, but didn't find the answer, thanks for bearing with me here!

I have a bronze liner in one of my rifles. After plenty of shooting it is black on the outside. I didn't know it was bronze(the rifle was a gift from a friend) until I gave the rifle a good cleaning and noticed a little gold color in the touch hole. The gun had been on a wall unshot for 15 years.

a jaeger could have been made with a gold liner originally so it might not look bad. Most jeagers were not browned originally but were finished armory bright. as posted, bronze will tarnish nicely.

Likely it is Ampco metal, (common for touchhole liners) which is very resistant to corrosion.

I wasn't aware of that. Maybe I'll finish mine bright, then let it age on its own. Wouldn't a gold liner burn out pretty quickly?
