Vermont Black Powder Firearm Laws

Hello. I was trying to see what the laws are in Vermont regarding black powder firearms. I tried to look it up on line, but could not find the answers to my questions. Where I live, you can order a firearm or powder and they ship it to your front door. Can you do this in VT? My firearms are in the ”man cave” displayed on my walls. Would this be alright? When I want to shoot, I put my guns in the truck and head to the woods or the range and shoot, virus or no virus. You see what I am saying. Someone in VT chime in and tell me how things are, please.

Go to the NRA website they usually have a synopsis of States Firearms Laws.
VT. I believe has some of the best pro 2A laws in the Nation.

VT has traditionally been a very gun friendly state, and not just for the NE. Hopefully it still is....

None only VT laws on guns was a 10 round magazine limit not sure if that even passed

Some years ago when I was in Vermont I asked a sporting goods store guy about gun laws. He told me they didn't have any gun laws. No restrictions on concealed weapons, open carry, etc. But you also didn't see any wahoos struttin' around carrying guns openly, unless they were hunting. I don't know if their laws are the same, but I wouldn't be surprised.

As of a few years ago, VT has put in a magazine size limit and I believe now has "red flag laws." So don't make your X GF mad or you get storm trooped.

VT does not issue a concealed carry permit, their "Constitutional Carry" law is what some 10 states have modeled theirs on. IIRC, "any adult can carry openly or concealed in VT as long as they do not intend to commit a crime." VT has had this freedom since the state was founded.

I've skied in the northeast twice now and both times I choose VT due to their carry law. I won't even think about skiing in NY or MD.

Homing in on your original question, I don't think they have many.......or any....restrictions on black powder firearms since they are very unrestricted in their laws regarding modern weapons.

I have been a full-time resident of VT since 1973. The following comments are based on my experiences. You can order black powder and have it shipped to your home. There is a limit on how much you can store at one location, but that is a federal restriction, I believe: an individual can store up to 50 lbs. of powder here without a permit or an approved powder magazine. If you want to display your ML guns, you can hang them up and enjoy them. In short, there are few restrictions and inconveniences. I'm not a legal eagle, so don't take what I say as gospel - it's best to double-check using more than one source. A couple of them have been suggested in other posts.

Here in Vermont we are very gun friendly, for the most part. There is a 10 round magazine limit that there is no way to enforce, but as Eric said there is no carry restrictions except where posted, post office, courthouse, etc.
I live in very rural Southern Vermont, and hearing gunshots on weekends just means the the neighbors are having target practice.
Last year during deer hunting season I saw at lest two hunters on bicycles with hunting rifles strapped on there backs, just saying, so far, our guns are safe.

Basically this also covers the definition of black powder firearms which shows no restrictions on purchasing them. As far as I know only Nuke Jerksey has laws restricting black powder weapons.

Very often, people seek an answer not knowing how to properly frame the question. Often the answer is different than the question. Sometimes, you have to question their question to understand what answer they are really looking for.

VT used to have some of the best pro 2A laws in the Nation. Fixed it for you.

Mag capacity limit and red flag laws would keep me out of there. I think some 20 US states now have Constitutional Carry.

Unfortunately we now have a 10 round mag limit on rilfes/15 pistols. And the new red flag law, now sure about the details. Other than those two infringements, the state is pretty good about 2A and hunting rights.
