Is the "Vincent" style buttplate (TOWT-Pecatonica) way too small for a 5'11" 190lb. guy?
I have been told to put it into the arm/shoulder junction and not against the shoulder pocket.
I have never messed with a buttplate this small or curved.
Thanks.

You do not sound too large for this gun. But,this is a different type of butt plate. You should really try to shoot one or at least shoulder one a few times before buying. I like it, but there is an adjustment to your shooting method.

On the other hand, the rifle is so easy on the eye, that I decided that I "needed" one no matter what. :)

That is exactly what I wanted to hear.
After seeing BioProf's and Rabbit's, I cannot stop thinking about one!

Erzulis,

You're just an inch or so taller than me. The Ohio style buttplates are shot by guys a whole lot bigger than you and me.
It is shouldered differently, and is very comfortable to shoot if basically put between the bicep and shoulder. Sits beautifully.
I'm not into this later style of gun. ( a little two muzzleheavy for me with that straight oct barrel), but a nice graceful gun none the less.

Hi Smallpatch hey Boat,

I too liked the vincent and that is why I wanted to try and build one. There is just something about that style that, like you say is very pleasing to the eye. Mine is in .45 cal so it is not that heavy. In fact I think it is a bit too light on the target shooting really and .40 would maybe steady a little better. I had lots of guys say that it would make a great off hand hunting rifle and I am inclined to agree with them.

I like you Boat, I saw a friend of mine build one and just had to have one of my own one day. Well it is my sons really but it seems like I shoot it more than he does. :):)

Take care
