Anyone tried this one?

It is not as bad as it sounds, and comes out like the lemon bit of a lemon merangue pie.

Receipt:

Take 4 eggs and beat thoroughly.
Add a heaped tablespoon of sugar & two tablespoons of vinegar.

Gently heat the whole thing through until it thickens, but you have to stir constantly. If you don't it goes lumpy & wont work.

Pour the whole mix into a pie case and bake for half an hour.

This receipt was definitely used during the 19th centuary in the Old West. Not sure how far it dates back.

Yes I have had this, and they used cider vinegar, and it was actually pretty good! I think though what you are making is sort of a mock lemon custard, so you don't completely cook the egg/vinegar but just thicken it as mentioned, and a double boiler is a good idea as it gives you a bit more control when thickening.
