Visiting just west of Philly...what to see?

Going to Dixons for sure.

Want to drive around Reading and Lancaster to see the general area. Any other shops or museums related to period guns to see?

If you have time the Henry homestead and museum is definitely worth going to.its the Jacobsburg Historical Society here in Belfast PA right off of rt33. The museum is amazing

Valley Forge, absolutely. We went two years ago in January. The visitors center was not open at the time, but still greatly enjoyed the visit.

The Daniel Boone birthplace is just east of Reading near Birdsboro.

I'm not aware of any collections of rifles on display right now, just the occasional gun here or there in various historical societies.

There's a great little civil war museum that used to be a civil war veterans hall. Great collections of memorabilia.
It used to be on Pine street but they got a bigger building to show the whole collection

You absolutely cannot pass up Gettysburg.

Brandywine battlefield in Chadd's Ford. Also, the museum of the American Revolution in Philly.

Great replies. Did Gettysburg on the 4th two years ago. Walked Valley Forge then as well.

There is so much to see and you can't fit it in in a month. Valley Forge, Gettysburg, Daniel Boone's Birthplace, Jacobsburg state park. Washington Crossing State Park, Independence Hall. Dixon's of course. If you go to Dixon's stop at Dietrick's Meats in Krumsville Best Beef Jerky on earth, Kutztown Birch Beer and lots of other area delicacies.

Harrisburg has a nice Civil War museum......or a nice War Between the States museum if thats the way your stick floats.

You should stop bye the philly market great place too have lunch, also be careful in the city lots of crazies, would not hurt too out fit the crew in Kevlar vests. Have fun lots of history in that area.

There's also Fort Mifflin near the airport, and further down the river is Fort Delaware. The latter is a civil war Fort, but its on an island in the middle of the river. You pick up the boat in Delaware city. It's a nice place to spend the day, have lunch(gotta bring it with you) and check out the Fort.

If you do go back to Gettysburg, check out Lord Nelson's Gallery for some great art. Also Chambersburg has a M/L gun shop.

Jacobsburg Historical Society has a museum of long rifles; google them, they're in that area I believe.

The Museum of the American Revolution has a display of 43 historically important US Flags currently, and it's a good history museum in general.
