Has anyone heard of a W.H. Veeder (Veder, Veeter??) gunsmith possibly from Indiana? We're trying to find info on a really nice percussion rifle and it has initals W H V and also A B C on it in several places. It's also dated 1950.

There is a handwritten letter with the rifle that says it was made by Veeder, a well known gunsmith in Indiana. We can find NO info at all on Veeder and are hoping someone here might know the name or some of his history. The letter was written 25 years ago and the man who wrote it (William C. Apple from OH) is deceased.

Can anyone help?
Thank you,
Amy

Hi Skychief,
Thank you for the information. My father is dying of cancer and my husband & I purchased the rifle from him. He owned it for 25 years, along with a .58 caliber rifle made by William C. Apple of OH. The Veeder is a 36 caliber and I think it has a Douglas barrel if my father remembers correctly. We haven't removed it from the stock. We know the .58 is a Sharon barrel. I haven't posted images here & I hope they aren't too large.

Thanks again Skychief, hope you enjoy the pictures.

Amy

William Vietor lived in Putnam County, Indiana, in the town of Reelsville. He made excellent quality rifles and pistols as well as the accessories that went with them. He stamped his barrels with "Wm. H. Vieter" and some guns had the additional stamping of "Reelsville, Ind." Shelby Gallien
