Wacky Shooting

Got to the range today for a little wacky shooting. I’m not a filmmaker like BPMS so photographs will have to do.

The gun used today is a Traditions Kentucky, .50 caliber.

I've done all sorts of "wacky" shooting. Made patches from tree bark or rope.
Sat down at the range one day and built a small fire, then made a ball mold of of nearby clay, then cast a ball using it and shot it at a target. My shot was true.
That's one of the fun things about muzzleloaders.

Seriously? A coke and Frosted Flakes? That right there is the breakfast of a real man. I recall the day well when I had my Coors Banquet with the Cheerios. Never a better period in my life!

Thanks azmntman. But this wasn’t the first time out with this gun. It will shoot clover leaf groups a 50 yards from a bench rest but I was shooting off hand all the shots pictured. I don’t know about 90-100 yards cause I can’t see the target that far!.

I have an unmentionable with braille fire control devices, equal access is equal access....I guess

Yeah, all my shooting is done at less than 50 yards, usually 25-30. At that close range you can load a muzzleloader numerous ways and still achieve good accuracy.

I have even shot .440 round balls with this method and was able to keep all shots on a cereal box sized target at 25 yards. Just for plinking and easy to load.

that is the tried & true method. and it is PC.

Wow! The brass is so shiny , it hurts my eyes! It needs to be toned down, a whole bunch. . The best way to tone it down is by shooting and handling it many, many times. Finger prints, black powder smudges and dirt in general will do the trick. Nice rifle BTW.

I know what you mean. I don’t like the shiny brass either and that’s why I am trying to put as much patina on it as possible

Great shooting and a nice rifle. There is the rare snob who looks down their nose at the CVA's, Traditions, and Spanish guns in general. That is until someone beside them on the firing line outshoots them with a Spanish rifle.

That's excellent shooting especially with the weird loading technique. I've owned and hunted with several Spanish & Italian rifles and found them reliable and as accurate as any other type of rifle.

AND, fellers, BEER isn't only for breakfast anymore!

I started using this method a few years ago in a Fusil de Chasse with shot for squirrel hunting. I prefer it for rifle and pistol also because I don’t like greased patches or short starters. Ain’t knocking those that do, it just ain’t fer me.

I call it my hillbilly (HC) correct method.

now I rely like that.

Yep. Down here we call em waspers. It’s a historically correct method. Mike Belivue uses it loading a smooth bore in one of his videos.

Once I tried using a Wasps Nest down my barrel. I will never try that again. Damn things got mad as blazes and stung like the dickens
