I've got another question about my waistcoat. I'm using the eagles View PM/68 Pattern and I just sews the lining to the outside and turned every right side out per instructions.

I'm on Step 4 UNDERARM SEAMS

a. Working on each underarm seam separately, pin the RIGHT SIDES of Waistcoat together and the RIGHT SIDES of Lining together, matching large dots, notches and armhole seam. Stitch.

My simple WV mind is having trouble figuring this out. Do I stitch the wasitcoat and lining together or separately (as one piece or 2 pieces). It almost makes it sound like to put the right sides of waistcoat together, then put right sides of lining together and sewn them a 2 pieces.

Also how far down the seam do I go? I see a large dot partially down the seam towards the bottom, and according to the next step, I'm thinking that I should stop at the large dot, but its not very clear in the directions.

Thanks again!

I've made a couple of waistcoats. If I'm not mistaken, you sew each piece separately. Don't sew the sides or the back completely shut on either piece. Only sew to the dot which is at about waist level. This will eventually allow for the open tails on the waistcoat. Once you sew each piece together separately, pin the outer and liner together inside out. Sew both pieces together and leave the bottom open on the rear tails. Once everything else is sewn together, pull the garment "right side out" through the opening in the rear tails. Once the waiscoat is "right side out" you will need to seal the rear tails shut. To do this, fold some of the outer and liner material to the inside and iron them shut. Now you can sew them shut with an exposed seam, or you can handsew the tail together with a hidden seam. It is a little confusing, but it will make sense as you are doing it. Good luck.
