I couldn't resist the temptation any longer. Got a used Walker on the way for my b'day present to me. I've developed a bit of an addiction to c&b revolvers and just have to try the big dog. :)
'been reading all the relevant posts here and it looks like fun! Guess I'd better stock up on FFFg.

Congrats on the BOOMER! Try 50-55 grains of 3Fg Goex, a pre-lubed wonder-wad and a .454 Hornady ball. Very accurate load! If it's an Uberti and the nipples haven't been changed-out, try #10 remington caps first.

Since it's used, check the nipples for erosion, and replace if necessary, to get the best accuracy.

Have fun!

Dave

'preciate it!
S'posed to be unfired but much handled. Armi San Marcos near as I can tell.
I'll give it a good once over before shooting it. I don't have any .454" balls on hand but a couple boxes of .457's for my ROA. I imagine I'll chamfer the chamber mouths and also check the chamber diameter relative to the barrel groove dia. I had a Pietta target Remington that benefitted from reaming the chambers to .4535" which necessitated .457" balls.
I've been impressed and happy with the ROA but the Walker sure has more carisma. I'm thinking of making a plaque or stand holding the Walker and Baby Dragoon :hmm:

Lucky You !!!....and me to.I got one on the way also. I have had one before...the are a handfull
of Steel !!! I could hit a sheet of notebook paper at 100 yds 6 times with 6 shots from my last one. It was A San Marco. Great shooter, lots of fun!

Sounds good! I wasn't sure of the quality of the Armi San Marco. I'm anxious to get my hands on it. Guess I'll need a bigger spout for my flask too. :shocked2:

Very good idea. My ASM Walker had 0.448 chamber mouths, 0.440 lands and 0.462 grooves! :shake:

Finish is, well, not exciting, but with those two exceptions it's a very nice gun.

.440/.462" !!!! WOW; never heard of a barrel like that. Talk about deep rifling! Is that common for Walkers? From what I've read here; they'll shoot very well. Do you shoot .454" balls? I guess they'll slug up but jeez that's a huge difference land to groove. :shocked2:

That is NOT common for Walkers. It was posted as an example (and ONLY an example, not an indictment) of ASM quality.

I had a real shock when I measured that slug, and did two more just to verify it.

It's really not a bad gun at all, but as you might expect it's pretty inconsistent with respect to accuracy.

Obviously the problem is correctable with a good reamer; I haven't done that with this gun as I have a Uberti Walker that serves quite well when I want to emulate a 24 lb naval cannon.

We'll have to figure a course of fire for the "Walker Challege" ! :)
Any more takers?

My Walker should be here next week, several members here have Walkers. Sounds like an online shooting contest ought to happen! Since sights are not adjustable, maybe say, smallest group at 10 yards. Picture of Walker and target emailed in by Sept.1.
Winner gets braging rights.

Any takers?

I'm in!
Got the Walker today
Jeez what a big revolver; I see why they call them horse pistols.
I slugged the barrel. Groove dia is right at .450". Bore diameter measurement will have to wait until I get back to the shop tomorrow because with the 7 lands and grooves; I don't have anything at home to measure it. Chamber dia is a bit tight; .445" near as can get with calipers. That's easy enough to fix.
It's real tight; I can beleive it's unfired tho it has been abused a bit. There's dings around the wedge and some blue wear.
Wish the lawn didn't need mowing; I want to go shoot this thing!

Why don't we throw in the dragoons? they're all colt's revolving horse pistols. I have a first model that I shoot with 50 grains of ffg. As large a charge as I read here that some walker shooters use. Big bang is big bang.

Warmest Regards,

Robert

Well..when you look on youtube you will see Walkers referred to Dragoons and you will also see Dragoons referred to as Walkers....seems like alot of people really dont know the difference when in fact they are generally the same but are Actually two different guns with different associated histories!
Both are as cool as it gets....I own both and LOVE em each thier own way.
But yes...you are correct in your generalization by calling the both HORSE PISTOLS.
and they Do make a big Boom.

I'm IN! But why at 10 yards? The end of the barrel almost reaches the target at that range :haha: .

I propose a two target Shoot: T-1 at 10 yards and T-2 at 25 yards, 10 shots at each target. Too many of us are good enough to get a one-hole group up close :shocked2: .

Let me know!

I just PT'd Jethro 224 and asked him to help set something up. I refered to this thread and suggested Walkers and Dragoons. Been a lot of talk about these big guns. Be interesting to see how good we can shoot them!

By the way, Dave. 10 and 25 makes sense to me!

Here's my 1st cylinder full after a quick once-over @ the the shop this morning. So far, so good.
A .438" pin drops right through the barrel and a .439" pin won't go. Chambers are snug on a .445" pin. I intend to open the chambers to .451 or so.
