Naw; that's just a good start. Have to agree w/Smokin'50 that we need to shoot a bit further 'cause there's a bunch of shooters here who'll put 'em all in one hole @ 10 yards.

I'm IN! But why at 10 yards? The end of the barrel almost reaches the target at that range :haha: .

I propose a two target Shoot: T-1 at 10 yards and T-2 at 25 yards, 10 shots at each target. Too many of us are good enough to get a one-hole group up close :shocked2: .

Let me know!

I just PT'd Jethro 224 and asked him to help set something up. I refered to this thread and suggested Walkers and Dragoons. Been a lot of talk about these big guns. Be interesting to see how good we can shoot them!

By the way, Dave. 10 and 25 makes sense to me!

Sounds good to me! Check-out the picture & post from Kwilfong from 30 feet! That's why we need the second target at 25 yards!

FWIW; So far I'm pretty disappointed with my ASM Walker. When I got it (used), I disassembled it for inspection and found a broken hand spring. No big deal; it functioned by pointing the muzzle down when cocking until the new part came from Dixie. Then on the 4th cylinder full, the base pin broke where the wedge goes through it. I fixed that by cutting off the base pin just in front of where the cylinder rides and making a new front half from 4140 steel and screwing that into the origonal back half. Got that done yesterday and picked it up while watching the tube last night and the bolt spring was broken :cursing: Made a temporary replacement to get by with until the new one gets here. Can't say much for the quality of ASM's heat treatment. I hope nothing else breaks before the horse pistol contest next month.

when you say " base pin" I guess you are referring to the "arbor" ?
WOW...I never heard of one breaking!I have heard of some wedges getting peened from heavy loads...
....thats got me worried..I just bought an ASM Walker produced in 1969...havent shot it yet.

Base pin is what I call the pin that the cylinder rotates on, and what the wedge goes through to hold a Colt c&b together. It looks to me and others that have seen my broken one that the case hardening was too deep and went clear through the front end, causing it to be brittle. That plus two springs breaking makes me think that ASM doesn't have good control of their heat treat operations.

Had to throw in the towel on the Horse Pistol Match. It finally cooled off enough to get some range time in. I got a 10 yard target that I could live with on my 2nd try. It's really hard to hold a Walker steady with one hand! Decided to go to 25 yards and found ANOTHER broken hand spring. I didn't like it but could live with it. Then I noticed the barrel/cylinder gap had grown a bunch, like .050". The slot in the barrel was mushrooming, not my homebrew modified base pin. What a piece of junk that ASM Walker has turned out to be. I'll fix it back to shooting shape but only use lighter charges of FFFg or maybe switch to FFg.Hope y'all had more fun with the match than I did. :surrender:

Any chance of getting some pictures of your repair to the arbor and where the wedge slot is mushroomed. In all the time I have been shooting and working on C&B revolvers I've never seen that happen. It would be really interesting to see pictures.

I'll see what I can put together when I get back from a business trip I'm leaving for in the morning. Gotta go to LA & I hate it :(

Bummer... on both counts!
I s'pose ya coulda just throwed the Walker at the target 5 times. :cursing: :cursing: :cursing: :cursing: :cursing:

I tried that. Sprained my wrist. Had to shoot both the 10 and 25 yard targets with the weak hand. And the pain was so bad I could only see out of my weak eye.... :surrender:

Had any other entries besides mine?
