Congrats on the new Walker. In my opinion it is the most fun black powder revolver to shoot and always is a crowd pleaser!

Keep making smoke! :hatsoff:

I shoot a Remington and use 17 gr of 3F and corn meal. For accuracy you want to bring it as close to the end of the cylinder that the revolver cylinder still turns. You will also want to have the forcing cone done on the italian revolvers. The revolvers work like the rifles as less powder is more accurate.

17 grains through a Walker would almost be a squib load! I wrote my last post with a little "tongue in cheek". Still waiting for a reply and/or photos of said target.

I'm not a "Gamer". I believe that military arms should be shot with military-strength loads. To do anything else is an insult to History! The best BP revolver Shooter ISN'T the person who "games it" to put all of those slow-traveling slugs into one hole, it's the person who uses the REAL full-strength load and has the "compunction" to absorb the recoil and the smoke & flash and STILL have some of his bullets go through a single hole!

I've won competitions for years, and especially with the Walker, I keep it "REAL". What others do with a 4.5 pound revolver is up to them!

maybe i am wrong in my thinking. but why on earth would you buy a pistol that takes a 50-60 gr. powder charge and try to shoot it with 20-30.
same with other pistols. if you want to shoot 15 gr. then get a baby dragoon. 20 get a 51 navy.

It's called accuracy and tailoring your load to the target and other conditions. Crazy concept, I know, but it's one of the reasons I shoot black powder.

Well....I shoot 30grains at 25 yards because it is dead on! Nice to be able to hit exactly where you aim. I also love shooting with full loads. The power of the walker is awsome! If I can do both with the same gun.....why not!

i have found the pistols shoot best with the loads they were made for maybe 10% less. there for a walker with a listed load of 50 gr should still shoot good with 45.

with all this talk of pc this and pc that why don't we shoot the pc loads?

Bob308, you're free to shoot whatever load you wish.

I'm not going to tell you that you're wrong - if being 'pc' is what's important, hey, have a good time.

Personally, I shoot to hit the target. I develop my loads to do that. That's why I shoot.

By the way, I've missed something - where is the Walker load listed?
