Walnut or Maple for Tenn Mtn Rifle?

Which one would be correct wood for Tenn Mountain rifle?

Very plain maple makes a good mountian rifle. I hate to see fancy wood on a plain gun.

Straight grain maple...Walnut...Cherry....Apple....Ash....all were commonly used.

I would suspect that Walnut was the most used wood but I haven't seen any REAL Tenn Mtn Rifles.

You want a dense piece of maple for a TN as it is a thin rifle & make sure the grain is correct thru the wrist & has no runout there..
