Howdy Folks -

I just noticed a "Barrel Bending Tool" available on ebay

here

it runs till Dec-27-04 14:29:19 PST, and doesn't have any bids as of Dec 24, 2:45 PST.

Even if you don't bid, the photo shows you everything you need to build your own barrel bending (straightening?) jig.

Happy Holidays and
all the best

You would think that they would get a few more bids if they had titled it a "barrel straightening jig" wouldn't you..lol

I once had an offer to bend my barrel by a fellow shooter at an event. I was shooting pretty good at the time. Haw Haw Haw!   :blah:
God bless.

I read an article a while back about bending the barrel to get it to shoot to point of aim, if the sights can't be adjusted enough to take care of it. I guess it's if the bore isn't exactly true in the barrel. It's been a while since I read it, I think it was by Mike Nesbitt in Muzzleloader.

Hey King squirrelsaurus,
Many a smoothbore will throw a round ball low. I don't know why, but I have experienced it. I did bend a round twelve bore and that worked. But then when I put a twenty smoothbore on my yeager, the stock keeps my eye far enough over top of the breech that it shoots to point of aim out to fifty yards. I haven't done much shooting beyond that with it. That is a second way to compensate for the smoothbore's tendency to throw a roundball low.
God bless.

I would be concerned about it changing the shot pattern cloud placement if the barrel is bent to compensate for the roundball...

Ideally, they should both be in the same area at any given distance within the smoothbore's design limits, however, this is not always the case...

Changing it for roundball could ruin the best shot patterning gun you have...

Something else to probosculate upon...
