In search of a single trigger .62 caliber flintlock rifle (not smoothbore) with a 28-32" rifled barrel, of Hawken, Jaeger, or British sporting rifle design. Must be top quality, solid, Best components (lock, barrel, etc), very well made, but no fancy inlays or carving are needed. New, old but unfired or rarely fired, or excellent used condition.

Oh ya! Nice criteria. Good luck finding er
Jaeger… MmmHmmm!
i agree with you, although it is not my ideal design. Probably the British sporting rifle is what I am after most, or want the most, but the Jaeger is what is likely to be most available. I could have something made to my exact specifications, but that takes two to three years. So let's see what happens from this post. Thanks for your support!

I'm checking with a guy who had a Jaeger for sale last fall. I don't recall the caliber or if single or DST. He's about an hour east of you.

Have you thought about a replacement barrel on a New Englander?
Not until you suggested it, I had not, thank you. Truthfully, I am less of a piecemeal guy and more of a one complete masterpiece done organically and with a single purpose kind of guy. It makes sense why someone would go the drop-in-barrel route, but with something as big as a .62, I would want the stock and wrist to be built to size and not trying to catch up to a new and much more powerful barrel. But this is a possible solution, and I will put it in the file, thank you

New Englanders are prone to crack with .50 and .54, and the butt isn't tall or wide enough to be comfortable with .62. Besides that, there weren't NE's made in flint, and TC didn't make the greatest locks...

I have a .62 Early Hawken with a 36" Hoppy Hopkins barrel and L&R lock. But based on your demands, I don't think you'll want mine. It was my first build, and even I was a bit disappointed! Shoots great though and is very accurate. Hoppy Hopkins was the premier barrel of it's time.

Thank you! Build aside, the barrel length is beyond what I’m after. Something short and handy. And my only build was from a Derringer kit 47 years ago. It was butt ugly and i never tried again. Thankfully. So I admire anyone who carries a build through to the end, whatever the end may be.
