I was just surfing the Internet and found these the other day. It raised a flag to me also but thought I'd put it out here on the forum to see if anyone dealt with them. Sometimes new companies make a great product and sell them fairly reasonable to get their foot in the door so to speak.

Bit the bullet and finally ordered my wedge tent from RK lodges. Now its time to finish making all of my other items and get my stakes made up. The only thing I didn't think about till now was what ropes and accessories I need for the tent other than stakes......What does everyone else use for rope and I've seen rope fasteners on the internet also, is that something I'm going to need.

Wedge don't need no rope, two upright posts and a ridge pole between'm and it's free standing.

Ok thanks! I was reading on rk lodges website on the tent I bought and it said something about rope.

Which one did you get? Bell back or not?
If you don't use a ridge pole then you need a rope front and back to hold tension between the two poles.
Either way is a correct way, no ridge pole just means one less pole to transport.

Rope,,? Most just uses common Sisal,, some guy's get fancy but a couple spools of cheap 5/16 or 3/8 Sisal or Manila works just fine.

No matter how tight you pull the rope it will sag in the middle. Several suppliers now offer hemp rope. Its stronger and more hc, although it looks like rope. You never have to put enough tension on the line in this sort of use where you risk it parting, so streagth isn't a problem.

Its the common a-frame civil war style tent. I was wondering the same thing when I saw pictures on the internet of them and was like well I'm going to ask the experts.

If you try putting it up without a ridge pole you have to run a line from the top of the pole to the ground, on both sides. Running a line between the poles inside the tent helps support the inside. When I've done it I didn't use dogs, but just put an over hand knot in the line, with a good sized eye, ran a line to the stake back through the eye then down to the stake to belay. You can put a lot of tension on the line and make your line very tight.

Ok Thanks! I think I'm going to try and use a ridge pole. I have to get to work on making my ridge pole and uprights. I'm going to try and make me a set of poles with brackets to make them not so long for transport. (slip together style)

I have been thinking about bamboo. I Forget the name but the one that is used to make fishing poles is really strong and yet very light

I've seen closet pole and/or hand rail pole slipped into conduit or pipe,, but the pipe for the splice/joint has to be 16-20" long for decent support or the poles wobble.
(closet pole can be pretty small thus the handrail)
When I started I had an old Buick and I found some strap-on car top carriers and lashed my one piece poles to that.

I wish I had seen this before last night. I received my tent and started on my poles. I used closet rod that is 1 1/4" in diameter and found some heavy schedule 40 steel pipe that I cut down to 8" pieces and it seems like its plenty strong. I turned down the ends on the closet rod and it seems like it will work but after reading the post about it needing to be longer it has me second guessing my idea now.... I guess i'll just have to try it and see how it works. if they need to be longer I'll just make some longer ones.

I'm really happy with the quality of the tent though and glad I went with the rk tent and not some cheaper tent! Thanks to all for the great recommendations.

RK has been around since 1971.....That's a lot longer than many. You don't stay in business that long by putting out a bad product. :thumbsup:

I'm working forging some tent stakes for it right now and as soon as I get them together I will post some pics. (if I can figure out how to do it)
