Had an interesting Email exchange with the guy who owns the company I got the wax bullets from...had asked him if he had any interest in or capability of expanding his wax bullet business to include hard wax round balls.

He replied today, asking some questions, including one about what size did round ball moulds come in...singles? doubles? and I told him yes but that gang moulds could be made by a couple companies if he wanted to get high volume capability.
(his question suggested to me that he might be pouring the wax bullets he currently makes instead of swaging them...and in my reply back today I specifically asked him that question.

I told him I could easily arrange some folks to help run tests if he decided to experiment.
Suggested if he did anything at all he should consider .490 RB diameter first as it was probably the most popular.

Wouldn't it be a hoot if a really hard wax round ball, protected by a good patch, could be fired at normal velocitiies and remain accurate, at least for 25 yard distances during informal weekend range shooting sessions.

With the cost of lead sky-rocketing and these being $20/1000 delivered, that could become quite a little business who's time might have come...the unknown is the accuracy...I hope he's willing to try some tests.

They would probably work on squirrels with head shots.

They'd have to be some pretty hard wax!
A squirrel's head is tough.

These things are "hard" for sure...and a 209 primer drives them 800fps from a pistol barrel.
I can't think of any reason why they can't be driven way up into higher velocities with very tiny amounts of powder as they weigh practically nothing...but again, the unknown is accuracy and it may dictate velocity maximums.

I had planned to do a lot of range testing today but it's rained on and off all day...now planning to go next Sunday.

Not to mention the saveings in the amount of powder used to shoot them since they would have to much lighter in weight.
Only thing is just remember your hunting loads for when you switch back to use on game.
But it would be interesting working up loads for a waxed roundball for sure.

It would be nice if he could do those in .60 and .72 as well. I'd be interested in a thousand or so of each.

Many Klatch

I agree with you on the .490 since you could use them in your deer gun on small game -- where legal.

Actually, a very useful option would be in a .350 diameter since the smaller bore might perform very nicely with this type of projectile.

He might also get some revolver cross over use.
