Our club is planning to add an early summer weekend long event and would like input. We currently run a fall primitive event featuring woodswalk, seneca run, novelty targets, hawk and knife contests. We used to host a championship match consisting of all paper targets, different aggregates. My question to you all is; what would draw you to a weekend long event. We do have on- site camping.

I'm going to borrow a page from the SCA. A Saturday evening muli-coarse "feast." Maybe some entertainment before and after. BYOB.

Lot of fat people in Maine, we didn't get that way excercising! :rotf:You have some great food down there!

A good camp dinner is a surefire winner. Also many non-competative shooters like a blanket shoot.

Our club has three shoot each year first one tomorrow and it will be a blanket shoot with couple of others thrown in. There will be bullseye and squirrel targets. We try to change things around using different animal targets. Have painted Indians, pioneers and the like. In September we have a silouhette shoot consisting of chickens to pigs and rams from 25-200 yards. So make it what you want. Mix it up and have a safe and good time. Dan.

Oh yea I forgot but a good pot of chile and some home made pies goes real nice too! Dan.

I used to organize and run seasonal historical arms shoots. Small prizes (asked for things LESS than $20) from local sportsman's shops that were designed to get the shooters to the store to collect (and maybe buy more while there -- win/win)... Range Peak-Season, due to hunting, was Last Weekend in September Through First Weekend in Decemeber. So...

We ran the Fall the weekend before the last weekend in September, Winter on the second weekend in December, Spring around the March/April weekend, and Summer in June the weekend before the last kid's school day.

There's one event that I've talked to different groups about, but no one has tried it yet. :idunno: "Meet Yer New Pilgrim Drinking Buddy" Weekend Rendezvous. :hmm: Friday through Sunday, you set your arrive, registration, shooting times and fees. Friday evening, say 7 to 8 PM everyone who wants entered to shoot, registers, pays their fee, and puts their name on a sticky note size paper and puts it into a jar/box. Even if there are daytrippers, they must register and drop name in container. List registration date and time on the flier. After the registration is done, or do it Saturday morning, depending on shooters preference. NO ONE can enter after the teams are picked. (This makes it fair and no loaded up teams can come in together):slap:. The rangemaster or designate non-shooter will pick out names, one at a time. First name is shooter A-1, next is A-2. The next is B-1 and then B-2, C-1, C-2 and so on. You'll need an even number of shooters. Two shooter teams; meet a new friend; NO switching off. You'll need about 8 or 10 shooting stations with an easy and a hard target at different distances for each station. Mix it up, some hard ones close some back, 20 targets total. On Saturday, shooters number 1 shoot first at the closer targets on all the odd number stations and 2's shoot first at the even stations. IF the first shooter at each station hits it, the other partner shooter shoots at the other target as a bonus. If the first shooter misses, second shooter doesn't get to shoot there but moves to the next target since that's where they shoot first anyway. On Sunday you reverse and the #2 shooters shoot first at the odd number stations and the 1 shooters first at the even number stations. and all else is like Saturday. Tally scores when finished Sunday. Give two prizes of the same thing for each team member. Ex.- Two Fifths of Southern Comfort for first place, two pints for second, a couple bottles of Mt Dew for third, and maybe a couple of Rum Ration Cups, empty :haha:, for last place. Shoot fees should cover prize costs and camp fee for incidentals and should be minimal. This is for fun and friendshop and just a good old fashion Hooofuraaahhh!!! :rotf: :rotf:

One of the targets in the above shoot has the team members load their own weapons and then swith with partner and shoot each others weapon :( . Here is where you have to help each other with sight picture and the quirks of your firearm. Single target at one station were both shooters shoot at it, same distance would be Candy Apple. Hang apples from a long horizontal rope between trees or posts, using a string tied to the stem, a dowel or popcicle stick stuck into the bottom of the apple. #1 shooter has to hit the stick and if he does the #2 shooter shoots the apple. Higher points for stick and less for appple. If the second shooter misses apple, then NO points are awarded for the hit stick . You could make this #2 miss a penalty on 1 or more targets.

That is way too complicated for our lot. Anything that involves complex directions tends to head for disaster :surrender:

What draws me is the woodswalk shoot and the sittin' around and drinkin' afterwards.
Novelty, smoothbore, and pistol makes it even better.
Big camp feed is a bonus.
I'm pretty terrible at the hawk & knife throws but I do 'em anyway...

Activities for non-shooters are nice;
Scavenger hunt.
Bean-bag toss.
Frying pan or stick throw for the ladies.
Fire starting.
Silent auction.
Archery.

Woodswalk, vendors and trading blanket. For me, I only have one muzzleloader and it has fiber optic sights, so I need to be allowed to shoot that. I personally do not care about the competition part, so the ability to just shoot and if fiber optics are an issue, not be counted for any placements. I also shoot longbows, so archery is a bonus for me!
