Does anyone know the weight a a TVM Early Virginia in .54x42 with a rice swamped barrel and the same rifle with in .45x42 ?

I did and the answer was sort of general, so I thought I would find some owners and ask them. TVM is about to start my Early Virginia which I had ordered in .54 with P++ wood , a rice swamped barrel and a Chambers Colonial Virgina lock. I was considering changing it to .45 and use the Queen Ann lock.

I had an Early Virginia built by TVM a year ago with a 42" Rice B-weight swamped .54cal smoothbore barrel...it weighs 8.0lbs.
I think going with a C-weight barrel would add about a half pound.

Thanks roundball. Looking back is there anything you would change on your rifle?

My only regret is that I didn't get it years ago...it fires PRBs about like a rifle to the 50yds I've zeroed it, and shoots an exellent shot pattern.

That is a fine looking rifle. What is the woods grade? It is beautiful.

Have you harvested any game with it yet? How is your trigger pull? Does the EV style help with recoil in your opinion?

Will be hunting it in a week or so this fall...

How is your trigger pull?

I use Davis double set triggers on everything...triggers are outstanding.

There is very little recoil...the Early Virginias (and Early Lancasters) have wide 2" butts and are powder-puffs to shoot.

I have its twin in a .62cal(.20ga) smothbore...they are very, very versatile for a wide variety of small/medium/big game hunting unless you live/hunt somewhere that the average shot is 100-125yds

My average range has probably been around 60 to 70 yards, I have however killed a small buck years back at a little over 100 yards. My reason for all the questions is that I have a bad shoulder that my doctor tells me is not going to get better at my age, however I think with reasonable care I can make it to the finish line. One of the reasonable things I was going to have to do was lighten up the powder charges and get away from my much loved Hawken styled rifle . I still shoot my Carolina Smoothbore but at 60grs only with a PRB.I was considering the .45 to make it easier to carry and balance when shooting, but I have no smallbore experience.I have never owned anything but .62s or .54.Thanks again for the input.

My TVM EV .50x42" straight barrel weighed, as best as I can tell with multiple tries on a digital br scale was about 8.5 lbs. So I figure between 8 & 8.5 lbs covers it.

My TVM EV has a Longhammock half round barrel, cant help you with the weight with your barrell but I shoot 75gr of 3F PRB very light recoil, kills deer as well as my 30-06 does. The wide flat butt on these rifles make them easy to shoot.

I used 60grns Goex 3F for everyday shooting and 100grns for deer. The deer load tells you it went off but is not in the least painful due to the wide butt plate and good solid weight. Actually 75 or 80 grains is plenty for deer and it's almost powder puff.

You all got my curority up and I just went and weighed my Tip Curtis LV 44" b-weight Colerain swamped barrel 50 cal., weighed 7lbs.8oz. on digital fish scales.

You can easily get a quarter pound variance with the density of the wood, and who built it. Most Virginia's will be between 7 1/4, and 8 1/2 pounds depending on barrel and wood density. Some of the locks you might pick will effect weight also.
