I recently had some countersunk screw holes in a tang filled in by welding. The metal will not take blueing so I'm assuming the guy used stainless rod. If I grind a sufficient amount of it out what type of rod should I tell him to use? No I didn't tell him I was going to blue it.

Thanks,

Duane

I'm not a welder, but what I think he did was gas weld it with a nickel rod. What I would do is either get another tang and fit it yourself, then inlet it, or you can drill out the filled holes, and have it mig welded. The welded parts have a tendency to get a little harder, the file wants to skip off the area. But it's only on the surface
good luck............George F.

standard soft wire in a wire feed (MIG) welder or any soft wire (coat hanger fluxed with borax or 6013 fluxed rod) with a gas torch. even then you may still notice a difference in the way it takes blueing or browning. more coats of either evens out the color.
