I'll be hauling this old 45 cal. Kentucky Rifle around the woods. Looks to be built in the 50's or 60's and has this barrel so long, that I just rest it on the side of the deer and shoot.

Use to shoot a cut down GPR and rec'd joking cause it was too short. Now, I just have one too long.

Heck I use them to lean against when out of breath from walking up the side of a mountain :haha: Hard to do with a short barrel. :v

hopefully my .54 lancaster if i gits it done in time, if not my .50 T/C hawken :v ...........bob

Hope to get out with a new Chambers New England Fowler currently in the works. I like using a smoothbore, and hope to try some duck hunting with it this year. Also have a new bird dog puppy, so hope to get into some birds with him, not sure if I will go primitive or modern with the pup, have to wait and see since hes just 6 months old.

Hi Roy, hes a Pudelpointer, got him from Canada this spring. I notice you have a wirehair, I would think they would be similar. Mine is a male, going to be a big boy, already about 50lbs and leggy. He also all black, which is not a common color. He just started to point this week, so I am getting psyched. I will use him for pheasant, quail, grouse, woodcock, and maybe some waterfowl. It would be fun to take a bird or two over him with the fowler. I used to do it occasionally with my old Springer and TVM fowler.

I hope to take some time and chase some Grouse in Sept then deer in Oct-Nov. with my .58 French fusil, may be the .62 smoothrifle for grouse as well.

I haven't been around any Pudelpointers yet, I would like to though. My wirehair is small for her breed, only weighs 51 lbs lol. I do keep her fit through the year. Her mother weighs 65 lbs and her father weighs 75 lbs. I got the runt. :haha: But actually its a good weight easy to handle and yet she was big enough to retrieve 4 Canada geese for me last year. Natural pointer and retriever.
Heres a pic of her pointing a wing at about 10 t0 12 weeks old, you can just make out the wing in the bottom right hand corner.

She did start out life mostly white :haha:

Man I need to make up a grouse gun for myself. Just can't see swinging that 50" barrel and not getting tangled up lol.

Roy,

Yeh, that short GPR did not help me one bit while I was trying to rest after climbing up that little hill at Dawson Forest last year.

Didn't look that big when I started.

Problem was that I had to go back up and down to get out.

Hi Roy, nice pic of the pup with the wing. First time I showed my wife the puppy doing that it had her amazed a little puppy already has the instincts to point like that. I would not be sorry if my dog was small like yours, like I said right now he is a moose and eats like a horse!

A lot easier to pick up and put over a fence thats for sure.

puttin' the finishing touches on a 20 bore smoothrifle and hope to get out for moose , deer and bear with her and load 'er up with shot for bunnies and grouse.
I'm countin' the days till cooler weather too.
the days are gettin' shorter, it won't be long now.
good luck with your hunt

Roy,
I'll be using my .32 Crockett for squirrel and most likely my .45 Hawken for deer, or maybe the
.50.Can't wait.
snake-eyes:hatsoff:

Will be my .58cal. Berk's Co. Been kinda thinking about redoing my .54cal. Buck's Co. if the summer gets too long. If I do that will take it some also. It's a little heavier..8-1/2lbs... than my .58 and which is 7-1/2lbs. If I can get the .54 down to close to 8lbs. may take it some...although I don't think I got that much wood to do it.
Will use my old Virgina .62cal. smoothbore for squirrel..birdshot..and hopefully have the .62cal gobbler gun I'm working on finished for gobblers..know I will since I shot it already.

Gonna try to get my first flintlock buck with the .54 Tennessee rifle. If that works out, plan on tryin' for a flintlock gobbler with the Sells .36. They're both sighted in and ready for the woods!
