I had some spare time and some large chunks of scrap leather, so I made a Slim Jim holster for my youngest son's 51 Navy. Took it over to him Saturday, explained how he could form fit it by soaking, wrap the pistol in plastic, etc. I'm sure you folks know the drill.

Never one to display any tolerance for waiting on anything, he decided he could speed up the process by drying it in his oven. Sets the oven to 190, and the timer to 30 minutes....

He now has a holster with blackened grill marks on the back, that is hard enough to use as a war club :rotf:

:rotf: :rotf: :rotf:

He may be able to soften that up with some mink or some neetsfoot oil. I don't know if you can re-constitute leather jerky... :rotf:

Well!....Back to the drawing board! :cursing:

Glad to here that you had some chunks!.Hope you have enough to make another!....Besides, we have all made goofs!

Mick...I mean Rick :youcrazy:

I usually have plenty of scraps laying around, so making another won't be a problem.

It generally only takes about an hour and a half or so to crank one of these out, unless I decide to tool it.

Tooling can really add to the build time. I quit making holsters years ago because there just aint no challenge in them, but if a friend or family gets a new gun I'll whip out the patterns and spend a little quality time in the shop with my leather gear and my 2 German Shepherds.

Momma says it keeps me out of trouble and outta her hair.

Anyway, I figure it's worth it. It's not often my over-educated yuppy son pulls a stunt that's worth at least ten or fifteen years of harrasment from the old man! :applause:

I though everyone knew you don't cook a holster at more than 150 or longer than 20 minutes!

Anyone else coat their holsters with beeswax and cook them in the microwave for 45 seconds?

It's good for making jackware too.
