Plans are to make a field carriage, using 36” Amish wheels I have picked out. Which are almost half of what the cannon cost. Selling some items to pay as I goI'm going to have to break down and buy a cannon one of these days I'd love to have one.
What carriage do you intent to mount it on?
You might see me at an intersection with a cardboard sign that says. Will work for cannon parts, God blessI guess I just ordered and paid for a half scale Napoleon barrel. 150# and 2 1/4” bore from Hern. So that just happened.
I looked at the website for the offering of tubes and I'd probably go with the U.S carronade in full or 3/4 size and obvious from my avatar on a naval carriage harder to move around for sure but just image myself saying"fire as she bears" when I would light it off..

one of the most feared artillery peicesOhhh an Amish cannon!!
I'm an Outtie so I had to go with field carriageI think that if I went the Cannon route there would have to be a naval carriage in the mix somehow or another. I wouldn't worry about moving it around so much, at 1/2 scale I could just fire it off my porch!

naval takes up a lot less room alsoI think that if I went the Cannon route there would have to be a naval carriage in the mix somehow or another. I wouldn't worry about moving it around so much, at 1/2 scale I could just fire it off my porch!

Did you explain to her that it means fire as the cannon comes to bear (crosses its bore) on the opposing ship?My wife read that as 'fire at she bears' and wondered what they'd done to upset you.
If I were to build one I'd have to shoot real projectiles on my property. I have about 400 yds. of open ground but don't have a clue where you'd get the iron balls that big.I think that if I went the Cannon route there would have to be a naval carriage in the mix somehow or another. I wouldn't worry about moving it around so much, at 1/2 scale I could just fire it off my porch!

What are your plans for the vent? Will you use friction primers for ignition?I guess I just ordered and paid for a half scale Napoleon barrel. 150# and 2 1/4” bore from Hern.
Naval cannons generally had wooden or iron wheels and the recoil was slowed with a block and tackle system and then returned to the gun port with the same system.I know nothing about cannons, so this may be a stupid question, what about lead (wheel weights and such)?
