Was able to get my 22nd deer with a muzzle loader this year. This years rifle of choice was a TC Hawken with a GM fast twist barrel. This barrel appears to be a good shooter. Just have not shot it as much as I should have. Took it out and zeroed it and went hunting. Groups were very good from what little I shot it. When I went to my log book to enter this deer, found it was also my 315th big game kill when all weapons were added in.

Holy Cow! Either you went to Africa a few times or lived down there by Roundball where you can just keep going on the computer and printing off all the tags you want!  Or you're really 200 years old! :idunno:

No matter, that's quite a hunting career. Would love to hear some of those stories around a campfire. Lots of great memories, I bet.

I still have till Jan.31st, But I haven't gone hunting yet this year, Maybe after Christmas I'll be able to go. The Back has been giving me problems this year :td: . 22nd deer! what do you do with them??

Trapper, that's a heck of a rich hunting legacy you have made for yourself. I have not taken even five percent of your big game harvest -- and I have been to Africa once.
That you keep a log book is a thing I greatly admire. Appreciate your inspiring post.

And in 5 to 6 years when you see few or no deer in your stomping grounds, sit bye the fire and read your journal. Conservation is not a thing to be took lightly. An Appalachian Hunter

I have not been to Africa, but while in the Army had the chance to hunt 3 of our western states. while in Germany I was able to shoot a lot of animals over there per year. During the years I was stationed in Alaska or Colorado I also hunted my home state of Wisconsin. Here in Wisconsn we can shoot a buck with bow and another with gun. Anterless tags are given with both the bow and gun lic. Plus we can buy as many anterless tags as we want provide we have the $2 per tag. I own my own farm and we limit the amount of deer taken per year, but I have plenty and will see no shortage in the future. I saw 12 bucks during gun season before I pulled the trigger and let my bow buck tag go empty. I started hunting over 50 years ago, so I have had plenty of time to rack up those numbers. All big game animals were legally taken and tagged.

Well, hopefully I will be able to hunt with my Lyman or Traditions come next year. I've never even harvested my first deer yet and to read your post is quite exciting! Congrats on all the success.

S. Kenton,
Thanks for the nice comments. Fact is in my old age, am getting lazy and not hunting as hard as I did a few years ago. Pretty darn cold this year for gun season and did not warm up for muzzle loader season either.

Hey Rat Congrats  ...But now ya gotta clean your gun..HaHa!
Enjoy your little slice of heaven! Its beautiful!

Dan,
Got all the smoke poles cleaned up. Been seeing some rabbits, may have to take up the 36 and see if I can get some. Hope to see you again this Feb at ecoes from the past.
