Well I went shopping for supplies today. I like to buy in bulk to save money. The only problem is when I finally run low I get sticker shock. :shocked2:

So I ask for a package of 10 tins of #11 caps. $47.00. Then I see a white can that reads Goex. He hands it to me and it's that Clear Shot I keep hearing about. I figure its going to cost more than the Black powder. Wrong, it was cheaper. I bought a can of Goex Black 2f for $17.00 and a can of Goex 2f Clear shot for $14.00.

OUCH! Speaking of Clear shot, anyone know how this stuff works? Any good or bad? I thought I'd test it out.

OK you can tell I don't get out much. When did they stop makig Goex Clear Shot? :rotf:

OK so what's the latest Goex BP substitute these days? :)

It's called "Pinnacle" the 2F looks like fish tank gravel and is hard to pour and measure. If I was ever to buy any again I would get the 3F.

That is because Goex sees that selling it is like shooting fish in a barrel! :rotf:

Seriously, is it that bad of a granulation?

It must be at least five years ago, maybe more?, when I tried Goex Clear Shot. If I remember, it left a light, dry crusty fouling in the barrel. A fouling that I had never seen before, or since. I was not impressed. Hopefully you will have better luck with it. Have not seen it for sale for a long time around here.

Yes it's bad it would not pour through my flask without shaking it pretty good. I shot five rounds of the stuff poured the rest of it back into the container chucked that into the tool box of my truck where it sat for 9 months. I was hoping all the miles it rode around would make a bit finer but of course it didn't. :haha:

So I ended up paying over $20 for powder that is useless to me.

Check out this as a comparison.

There have been a few differeent BP subs to come out during the past few years but they all seem to have some sort of problem or another...if I had to go back to shooting a BP sub, personally I wouldn't waste my time trying all the "new improved versions"...I'd simply go back to Pyrodex RS...I used it for several years in caplocks, it always worked fine for me, accurate, fouling stayed soft, didn't have to wipe between shots when using NL1000, bore always cleaned up fine, took several deer using it, etc.

In fact, I'm down to my last pound and a half of Pyrodex RS I bought as part of a 15-20 pound buyout at a Walmart many years ago for $9/lb. I use it for weekend range shooting in my Flintlocks, 20grns Goex 3F downbore first, followed by 30grns Pyrodex RS...works perfectly...I've used up several pounds this way so it didn't go to waste.

So for me, if I had to use a BP sub, I'd just use RS...don't need a "better mousetrap".

Wow! That stuff is twice the granulation size!! I guess if I ever buy any, I will have to remember to get 3f...
