Funny, In the mid 70's when I would be hunting with a muzzleloader, people I would see in the woods always said: what the hell is that you're hunting with. Now in the mid 00's anybody that see's me hunting with my 62 cal. flinter always says, what the hell is that you're hunting with? Back then I was the ONLY guy in the woods with a muzzle loader. Now it seems I'm the ONLY guy in the woods with a traditional one.

I hear ya Stubert. Back in 79, when I got my first Rifle, it was a T/C Seneca. That was the only rifle I knew other than a .22 for years. Now, I am packin a Full Stock Hawken and guys say, "What in the world is a Custom Long Range Riflesmith doing hunting with a Hawken Muzzleloader?" I just smile and say, 'Its all I know."

It's made my hunting / shooting experience complete...just this morning I went squirrel hunting with my new .40cal Flintlock...never fired a shot but it was a great morning in the woods...cool, damp, calm, quiet...saw a couple squirrels but no shot...saw a few deer way off...a really pretty time in the woods and carrying a Flintlock...

Uncle and I went to a local gunshow today and noticed that there were a fair number of traditional muzzleloaders on the tables. Didn't see very many *nl*n*s.

I live in PA and we have always had a late flintlock season. I have been shooting them for close to 40 years now but really never studied or got really interested in them until 3 or 4 years ago. Flintlocks are all I want to hunt with anymore. Even a caplock is of no interest to me.

I went to a huge gun and knife show today looking for various flintlock and black powder stuff and all I could find was one used TC 45 caliber Hawken. Everyone there was looking at semi-auto rifles and handguns and da da da. I just don't fit in anymore. Does anyone know if there are any traditional rendezous in the northwestern part of PA?

What gets me are the ones who give you a dirty look or a verbal lashing for using such a "horrible thing" to hunt with. As if the guns hadn't been succesfully used for centuries.

I hunted with them for many years..the thing that gets me is Goex was about a buck and a half a can back then and very easy to find

I always love the comment, "you hunt with that old thing?!" I just smile and say Yup.

Just ordered 25 lbs.of Goex from Coonies in N.M. came to $12.33 delivered. Seems to go up a dollar or so per lb. every year.

sorta strange,if ya go to the goex website and called all the dealers the diff in price is really somthin! was $60 diff between two in the same state last summer!!... plus the forms from one dealer to another..gees some ya need 5 guys and their drivers license some ya jot somethin down on paper w/ yer own dl. and it's on its way..but it's well worth the price and any hassels! RC
