rebel727,

I have to say I like your vinegar, salt method. I am in the process of antiquing a 1860 and tried LM solution for two days in a sweat box but did not get the desired effect, was to slow to my liking. So I mixed up some of the vinegar/salt and shes rusting nicely now after two days in the box.

I did the same thing to my NAVY ARMs Reb short round barrel 51 Navy 44 but steel wooled it every week and its got a nice brown rust color and no pitting , took all of a month or so to do but its the best looking of the lot and the inside is like new! :rotf: Now to try this 3" 1862 Police with no rammer ect Ive seen in the Colt book. GAD they only made 200 kinds of 1849 pockets and 100 62 Navy and Police, and all of them really look good and cant get extra barrels unless its UB. :cursing: qaand they are 50 to 100 more than any other make. Fred :hatsoff: ( OH ya LIKE IT the way yours turned out looks like itsw been thru it - I got CW book here someplace with a pic of 1 of Forrest men with 3 Rems and 1 of them looks like yours.
