.62cal(.610) 1" x 33" GM Flint drop in smoothbore barrel for the TC Hawken.

Last week I had trouble keeping all shots on a full size paper plate at 50yds using .015" Oxyoke plain cotton patches...(could thumb start those).

Today I used .018" pillow ticking and got incredible accuracy with the smoothbore:

80grns Goex 2F
.018" Oxyoke prelubed pillow ticking
.Rush Creek .595s
Cloverleafs at 50yds

The deer are in serious trouble...

Cloverleafs with a smoothbore? That's incredible! I had no idea that a smoothbore was capable of that kind of accuracy. :hatsoff: .018 wonder-lubed pillow ticking does bring out the best accuracy in my rifles.

So, it sounds like the Jug Choke didn't affect the rd. ball shooting after all. That is good to hear.
Oh no...the jug choke wouldn't shoot round balls well at all...this is a different barrel.

What's more, is that in a couple of the groups, the first 3 shots were actually cutting well into the edges of each other's holes...conditions were excellent, no distractions, no wind, just took my time, concentrated, etc.

Ohh, darn. Ohh well, at least you have a couple to choose from.
Yeah, a couple weeks ago a guy I know called me, knew I had a fine M1 Garand and wanted to buy it, made me an offer I couldn't refuse...particularly since I haven't used the thing in 10 years and got more than I paid for it...decided to get this 2nd .62cal and let the jug choked one just be a turkey barrel, shot barrel, etc.

Have you tried this barrel with shot to see how it does? Sounds like it does real good with rd. balls.
No, no plans to waste time or money on that...already have a jug choked barrel

It does help to have a fully adjustable set of sights on the smoothbore.
 they're handy for sure...I try to never to let anobody confuse me with a purist...
:haha:

LOL, next thing ya' know you'll be stickin' a scope on it and cuttin' one ragged hole in the target. :v

I think Roundball has more barrels than Green Mountain does...and maybe TC too. :rotf:

That's as good as I do with my .50 CVA off a benchrest on a good day. At 100 yds. I get minute-of-deer (which I had for supper, with mushroom gravy, smashed taters and fried okra) : about 3" groups.
Who needs rifles with smoothies that shoot like that? :hmm:

Now I have to find the mold that came with my Renagade, I already have a yard of that tickin'. :shocked2:

No kidding there! Ole Roundball could add a wing onto T/C's shop. Whenever I see something different in a T/C product I give him a yodel!! :haha:

Now boys...while it might be true I have more than one barrel ( ) I do turn stuff over every few months too...you just don't see them for sale on this website.

But there's no arguing that the interchangeable barrel approach sure has let me experiment with an awful lot of different calibers, both rifled and smoothbore, without having to buy entire new long-guns each time......this muzzleloading stuff is a great hobby and flintlocks in particular have simply gotten under my skin
