What capper fits the Pietta 1858 Remington cap and ball revolver?

I have a Cash universal "teardrop" shaped and a straighline capper and neither fit the narrow slots on my 44caliber Remington (Pietta) 1858 so I have to put the caps on by hand is there a capper that fits and if so..where can I get one?

i was going to reccomend a straight capper since thats what i use on my 1858, but i see you said yours doesnt fit. maybe worth trying a different brand of capper?

I can actually use a straight line with mine.
Here's a video by Forum member duelist1954 about this gun and a modification he's made that I'll be doing soon to mine, it's up around the 4-5 minute mark. While your there look at some of the other vid's he's got.

The TC Star Capper will fit but stills requires using your fingers to load it with the caps one at a time.

Thanx for the replies..looks like I will try grinding out the slots with a 1/4 inch dremel bit. I will let you know how it goes.

I have tried several different cappers and the only one that works with the least amount of tinkering is this one.

It does require you to round off the brass piece right around the spring fingers that hold the cap before using. But it is very minor and there is no danger of ruining the capper in doing so. If you are only going to shoot your remmy occasionally then this will work. If on the other hand, you plan on shooting it a lot, you will be need to make the modifications suggested in the videos.

I had my cylinders machined out so now I can use the Ted Cash snail capper which holds 100 caps.

I used the Dremel with a small grinding wheel to open up the slots and the problem is solved!
