I am a member of a group in central mn. We have a few vous a year and it seems like at our biggest one, we do the same thing every year. i am a person who likes to shake things up a bit. Since everybody likes to do the same cut the card game or something like thatwhen throwing hawk, we will always do that. But, how about having an additional hawk throw where instead of hitting a certain part of the block, all you have to do is stick it? But by throwing the 1/2 revolution, 1 rev., 1 1/2 revolution, two rev., two hawks in hand throws, a side throw and what ever other crazy thing i can come up with. I just want to know if anyone likes that idea or if you don't think that would be of real interest. thanx

I have a big problem with redundancy, so change is always a good thing, it makes the game a challenge again...

So what else is out there to do?

Anything your imagination can think up... :winking:

At the Flinthills rondy over Labor Day weekend the hawk and knife throw was interesting. They had you set your knife and hawk down on a stump and then, when you picked them up they started a stopwatch.5 sticks each, timed, but you had to AVOID cutting the card for the 10 sticks. After the 10 sticks you could throw at the card to stop the clock. You got a penalty if ya hit it out of turn and some amount off your time if ya hit it at the last.Kind of a fun deal...

At a rendezvous that I attend up here in Nova Scotia, we sometimes use plastic drinking straws as targets. One vertical and another horizontal. Not as easy as it sounds :curse:. Also we have used other shapes as targets, cut out of thin cardboard, (rabbits, fish etc,) these are about the same size as playing cards, but everyone seems to like the idea of something different. :m2c:

If you have the space and targets... we set up a grid of 3x3 targets and played tic-tac-throw with red and green ribbons tied to the handles.

Not as easy as it sounds, either. you only get so many throws, and if it doesn't stick the square stays open.

You can set a tomahawk in a hole in a stump (by it's handle, blade facing you) step back and throw discs of wood (mini targets) at it and try to stick them onto the blade...

Sort of a reversed throw...

Here is a couple things you can try- first mount a wood strike anywhere style match to the block. The object is to light the match without cutting it. secondly- have a night throw to cut a string. I bore two holes up/down or side/side 6-8" apart then from the back of the block enlarge the holes just deep enough to stick two of those glow sticks into(the glow sticks are the ones you bend and they start glowing) We did this for a dollar entry first one to cut got the pot each round you could add more money or just throw for bragging rights. you can use a candle for this also putting out the flame without hittimg the candle but the glow sticks are safer. Be creative!
Check out my posting at the end of Flint50 "tomahawk throw"
