Rob...........Do not loose heart. For starters , you might need , .012 thick muslin patches , perhaps .440 round balls , percussion caps , FFFG black powder , powder measure for about 60 GR. FFFG. black powder. , loading /cleaning rod with correct r/r tip , and patch lubricant. Only have to buy most of this stuff once , except for ammo components , and percussion caps. Don't forgot nipple wrench. Cleaning patches , can be cut from old cotton Tee shirt. 6" ball starter can be made from a piece of cleaning rod. As you figure this rifle out , ask questions on the Forum , and answers will come quickly.

Yes, the Pros are here, and so are a bunch of jokesters!
Often, they're the same people!
Ask a serious question, and you'll get serious answers, especially regarding muzzleloading.
Not that your question wasn't serious, but you can see how folks can be informative and entertaining, too!
I'm glad you joined us!
Ask away!
Now if humor can't be found mixed with some seriousness, then I don't belong here. Appreciate your message, thank you.

We should all apologize for that.
Any time you join a new forum on a particular subject you will encounter their own acronym language. It is a common failing and, really, rude to the newcomer who is trying to learn.
I belong to a wood working forum that has a sticky with a list of acronyms for newcomers.
But, FWIW (for what it's worth), that is the least of the craziness you will encounter here. 😉 Welcome and good luck.
He has been a member for 12 years not new

Really appreciate this information OldWood, helps a ton. Thanks again

Thank you..I was presented with a CVA Frontier Octogon barelled 50cal muzzleloader percussion type of rifle. It was "gifted" upon.my fathers passing. Never shot it before or any muzzleloader for that matter. But it looks like a good time, so I'm trying to learn "from the pros" the best way to properly.use the correct powder and ammunition for it.
find a group that gets together to shoot they will be your best help ......that being said you well have to blend what your being told from several people into what for you ! A location where you are located would help to hook you up with fellow shooters here in Minnesota we have a shoot on Saturday the 12th in morristown

And it can be confusing even when you've been here a few years. Sometimes I have no idea what they heck some of you are talking about. This is why I seldom use abbreviations. Doesn't take much effort to type out the whole word. Bill
Got a note back from the professor in school....it said "U use 2 many abbrev..."

Acronyms can be confusing.

When I was designing jet and gas turbine engines people would go around talking about the TIT (turbine inlet temperature), HOT (high oil temperature), HCF (high cycle fatigue) and stuff like that all the time.

My son who lives in Northern Arizona says he wants to get a T-shirt that has What? painted on the front in large letters.

In small letters below the What? it says "Welcome To Flagstaff"

:rotf:
A local university recently cancelled its window/sticker sales - permanently
The sticker -- "FU" ---Finlandia University (Now closed )

Purchase a book , Lyman,Sam Fadela or other such notable name.

@RobTom, a very good book on black powder is the Lyman "Black Powder Handbook". Sure the book was published in 1975, but the information hasn't really changed all that much. A used copy is showing on Amazon for $6.92 which doesn't include shipping. The 4th edition of the Gun Digest "Black Powder Loading Manual" is also full of good information and may have data on your speciifc rifle.

I am really flattered to be called a pro. Some on here may disagree with you.
