Hi everybody! (Hi Dr Nick!)

A week or so ago I posted "Hunting, Plinking, Re-Enacting or Target Shooting?"; the replies made for very interesting reading, and I note that nearly all that replied stated HUNTING!

This time, how 'bout tellin' some extra info re your hunting ie what is you fav game/critter, how many you bag & how often etc, etc?

I think BP only info, 'cos I dunno how to shoot anything else! even in-line stories would be OK.
Jim.

PS I want to hunt some day, but it is extremely difficult in my part of Aus! :curse:

haven't hunted b/p in quite a while although i will be correcting that over sight next year .
here in texas you can hunt hogs, rabbits and sqirrels year around (with the exception of a few counties in east texas ).deer season runs from october(archery only)to january(general season nov.to jan)
i have hunted and taken hogs and deer with my .50 hawken.no bunnies or squirrels.
this summer i will have to thin out my jack rabbit population and hope to get some more practice ::

I love to squirrel hunt with a BP gun...32 or 36, flint. But sadly, the places I hunted are now developements, malls, car lots and all that manure. I've been out asking people for the last 3 years if I could hunt for squirrels using BP only and the answer has been a resounding "NO!". Ohio law says the only rifle to shoot squirrels with is a .22. There is NO mention of BP small caliber guns...so if it isn't mentioned you can't use it...state land (public) is out of the question...and public land, as I have found, pretty much has too many people, to few animals.

So I gave up...haven't hunted squirrel in a long time....really kinda depressing.

The only time I go hunting is in the PA deer season for primitive BP. Hunt in the Sproul state forest area and the deer herd is thin...very, very ,very thin there. If the prices for out of state hunting fees go up again I probably won't be able to afford that and I'll just quit hunting altogether.

Sucks, doesn't it? :( :( :(

Eastern whitetail deer for years, and this fall tried the squirrels, got my first "Flintlock Squirrel"...almost as big a kick as getting my first deer.

Have gone after Turkey a couple times with a .62cal Flint smoothbore, but so far, haven't had one come in for a shot.

A few doves with a .12ga SxS;

This year, I'm thinking of trying to call in a coyote to a .45cal Flinter, and calling in some crows to the .12ga SxS

Like most, havent hunted squirrels in ages. I hunt snowshoe hares and blue grouse in the sangre de cristos (colorado)with a cva 12 ga sxs. This year will be my first PBR for deer. Also have blasted a few doves with the cva. They all taste better when popped with BP!

since i use a smoothbore (as everyone should) I hunt tree-rats, birds, and bunnies with shot. I am going Turkey hunting for the first time this year with the same gun. I hunt deer, dirt beaver and various trash-can bandits (coons and possums) with round ball and have called in coyotes but the one that got within shooting range came in behind me. Occasionaly I take down sky-rats coming out of the barn and crows hanging out on the trash heap.

And no, I don't wear my platystein hat when I go hunting...people keep trying to beat it to death every time I put it on!

If you can hunt it I do! This consist of deer, rabbits, squirrels, grouse, doves, all manner of varmints and predators.

The only thing I've had trouble makin' myself go after is waterfowl and that's cause I don't live on the major flyway. Some days I'll only see a limited amount of birds and sometimes just one flight.

My lab Rascal gets mad at me if I don't unload all three shells in my modern gun at them! I'm planning on getting in some waterfowling this coming year my smoothbore is of the single barrel version.

I plan to take it to a place where we usually only see wood ducks and the limit is 2. But last year I took my limit with a beautiful double shot won't be able to do that with my smoothie! Drat!

Hunt tree rats, bunnie, and all manner of upland birds with Pedersoli 20ga. swivel breech. Ducks, geese with Pedersoli 10ga. SxS or Sharon Barrel Co. 12ga. "cape gun". Big game with .54 or .62 underhammers. Most fun of all though is woodcock and grouse with the 20ga. swivel.

First love is whitetail deer most difficult of all North
American big game to hunt, this :m2c:is a fact not an opinion!!
If you take a deer under fair chase rules it is quite the prize and with BP it's even more special. I'll be hunting
woodchucks/groundhogs this Spring in Pennsylvania along with
coyote. I've taken black bear with bow and may try it with
flintlock in the future. Also saving for BP Elk hunt. :D

#1 for me is Blambi. 32 so far with iron-sighted weapons using soft lead projectiles from the ground (not all round ball, not all m/l ). God, I love whitetails.

Squirrels, cotton-tail bunnies, grouse. I've shot about three heartbeats behind numerous woodcock. Have yet to hit one with a m/l, but I still try.

I used to hunt groundhogs/woodchucks a couple weekends a month in the summer with a T/C Seneca and a Renegade. Lots of fun and good times on a friend's father-in-law's farm.

Over the years I have enjoyed shoot'n, bunnys, grouse, coyotes, antelope, deer, elk, moose, black bears, caribou, porkypines, sqwirrls, and probly a couple'a other critter-types thet I'll remember after I post this.

Be'ns I'm "blind" only adds to the "sense of satisfaction" I git from "bag'n" a critter with a traditional muzzleloader!! ::

Stumblin',
Please don't start with "THE HAT" again; I still haven't recovered from yesterdays laughing fit.

I have successfully hunted hogs, deer, rabbits and sqirrels with ML guns. I use a smallbore rifle on small game, a large bore cap or flint on large game as fit my moods.

I am moving toward a smoothbore flint and I intend to add dove and turkey to the list in a few months with it.

Here in North Texas I hunt with my 62 cal. smoothie exculsive. My modern guns just gathering dust. Hunt mostly hogs, deer, rabbits, squirrels and dove. In NM and Colorado I hunt deer and elk. I most always bring home meat. That big ol bullet lays em down. :redthumb:

Favorite?........depends on what season is open.
To date, using B/P (flint & percussion) I've taken a few: Whitetail deer, turkeys, one Canadian black bear, & rabbit.
I've got a .36 underhammer on order & plan to take some squirrels with it yet this winter if it gets here in time.

Using that modern, new fangled, high tech stuff ....I've also taken about any kind of small game found in the Northeast, deer, turkeys, & antelope.
:sorry:

I also plan to (using B/P) go after Caribou, elk, & whatever other big game that my budget will eventually allow. :hmm:

Deer, rabbits, doves, quail, ducks, geese, gophers, coyotes, squirrels, muskrats, porcupines, skunks, and maybe a few others.

being that i was raised in an italian house hold i will hunt aneything that is in season mom would cook aney thing that walked ,swam ,slithered ,flew or had a hart beet at one time guts and all and my dad thought it all tasted like chicken nothin like baked sheeps head to give your new girlfrend the test gess thats why i married a italian girl

I have harvested teal and woodducks with my percussion pedersoli dbl; pheasants with an 11 guage flinter; 2 white tails with an inline 50 and 6 with a percussion 50. we wont go over the missed list, not enough space!

Just deer. Only got one so far with a T/C Renegade .50 Rb.But I keep trying. Just ask all the deer I've missed since then! DALE
