Other than the ordinary Deer, Bear, Hog, Squirrel, etc. what wild game do you eat?

Add elk, moose, caribou, dall sheep, mountain goat, snowshoe hare, muskrat, beaver to your list and you cover my ground up here.

For me its Elk at the top of the list. Moose, Mule Deer some times White Tail. Mtn. Sheep and of course Antelope which we have more of than people living in the state. Game birds grouse mostly and Ring Necks.

Add beaver, wild boar, pheasant, rabbit, partridge, dove, quail, moose, elk, caribou, lion, alligator, and buffalo, to that short list of yours. On my short list to try that are available here locally are Raccoon, Opossum, and Groundhog. I have never had a chance to try Bear, or more than a tasting of caribou and moose. I am looking for repeat performances with moose and caribou. I would like to hunt and eat grouse some time.

Other than what's on your list, rabbit, quail, and dove. I've had 'coon and liked it, just never been a 'coon hunter.

I tried groundhog after reading an article about how good it was - must'a done it wrong... :haha:

Rattlesnake is very good in my opinion.

:hatsoff:
Spot

"Lets see" Grouse, Quail, Woodcock,Dove, Duck, Goose, Bear,Wild Pig, Coon, Lots of Bunnies (My favorite small game), Pronghorn,Always wanted to try Cougar, but so far haven't been able to fill a tag. Those critters are sneaky, and hard to find without dogs, and Oregon says no hunting with dogs for Bear and Cat.

I'll add Oppossum and Porcupine. Had goose once, but it's so much easier to just open a can of warm lard and eat it with a spoon.

I've eaten crow on many occasions, but I think that's different.

Now THAT was an answer I didn't expect!

I have had all sorts of wild game, but some that are more common, I have not had the opportunity. I have not had Opossum, Raccoon, Nutria, Muskrat and so forth. If I get something new this season, I will be asking you guys for some recipes!!

The goose I tried was sorta like muddy lard.

Add Prairie dog to the above list. Best when taken young in the early summer. Excellent survival food.

Add to most of the above mentioned. Turkey, Javalina, Bobcat, most snakes and if its got 4 legs and runs in the woods it might be in trouble.
Fox

I eat opposum and raccoon on occasion.
also frog legs.
I have eaten buffalo, moose and elk in addition to most of the game mentioned by others.
laugh if you wish about opposum but one that is caught around an orchard, wild grapes, persimmon trees, berry patch, etc is some tasty eating young ones being the better. I once roasted one in a D.O. while on a hunting trip at the South end of the Smoky Mtn park in early November. I caught it in the largest patch of persimmon trees I've ever seen.
of the 3 of us there wasn't a scrap left of it. the dog had to settle for the pot grease poured onto left over cornbread and what sweet potato scrap was left.

Everything I shoot excepting jackrabbits, ground squirells, and coyotes.
Figure if I am what I eat and eat a ground squirell, which has a canabalistic diet, I would become a Wendigo.
