One thing to consider is that the short barrel Geman Jaeger was not the "norm" for rifles of the mid 18th century and earlier,or the pre longrifle era, there are records of 3' and 4' barrels on imported Dutch rifles in the 1750's way to much importance is put upon the short Jaegar when we talk of the evolution of the longrifle.
