ebay metal detector finds. Four English Civil War apostle caps in lead and a thing that looks rather flinty...

Anyone ever seen the like? Is it two pieces fused together or what? (The one penny coin is 0.8" diameter)

Hi Mike

With the flint screw bent backwards by aomething that took it off the gun?

But what about the latch shaped lump at the bottom? Assuming that's part of it

best regards

Squire Robin

Oh, I'm not 100% on this one Robin....It may be two hunks rusted together that are unrelated.... :hmm:
Hard to tell, but pretty nifty none the less.

Mike,
I just gotta ask. What is the bird in your avatar? It is driving me nuts trying to place it! :youcrazy:
Thanks.
God bless.

I'm guessing box-lock pistol, possibly button release like in a cane gun? Internal mechanism of some type and a stirrup through the lower opening fastened the hammer to a spring? Or just an amalgamated glob of parts?

And Swamp Rat - the United States has never minted a penny coin. Ours are "cents" ('strue, check it out).

Yep, that's a real penny. What we have here in the States is not a penny, it is a "one cent piece".

We just borrowed the term "penny" from Squire's folks.

:hatsoff:

Way back when, apostles were small bottles that carried premeasured loads for muskets, matchlocks and such, and there often was 12 of them. Sort of a very early speedloader.

Could it be from a miquelet? I know they tended to have a large ring on the top jaw screw, but some had no ring and a screw slot. Could have had a horizontal sear, too.
