It appears to have a Maslin lock? Opinions on this?
$395.00 "buy it now" price seems quite fair, but I'm not crazy about the maslin lock if thats what it is.
It looks like a maple stock with the last couple inches spliced with black walnut.
Half round half octagon barrel isn't real common on inexpensive guns. If this is a 'kit' of some sort what kind is it?
I feel like buying myself a present, but if it's a maslin lock I don't want this one.
The maslin is pretty much junk isn't it?

This is a very rare Peter Neihart Hawken, not many of them made.

No really, it looks like a Allentown/Bethlehem school rifle that someone had to "Cut Down". Maybe the stock broke or something.

But Maxi, we thought YOU were the expert??? ::

It's not a bad looking little flintlock, the wood to metal fit seems tight and I would say it appears to be an older gun from what I see, ther is no "for black powder only" stamped on the barrel flats shown...

I don't care for the "hump" in the stock, but that's just me, reminds me of a French Marine muskets...

I can't tell what kind of lock it has.

I know it doesn't have a ramrod though.

I also know it is a matter of individual taste but boy, I really hate that kind of shape on the front of a stock. That's the reason I won't even consider a Ruger #1A. The only #1 Ruger I will consider is the B stock.

Whoever made it does pretty good on the checkering, but doesn't finish brass furniture well at all.

The stock looks to be plain Maple with Mahogany stain on it.

If the lock is a L&R or a Siler and the barrel is in good condition, your looking at about $290 worth of parts, not counting the stock wood.

If you have $400 burning a hole in your pocket, go for it and let us know how it turns out. :)

Naw...I'll pass on this one. It look like it's been cobble up pretty bad. The ad says the lock is a Deer Creek. Those are very cheap maslin locks, not worff a hoot!

Siler? The ad says the lock was 'made' by the builder. They use the words "Deer Creek' which = JUNK!
I have a replacement Maslin lock by....I fergit, some major maker and it's way big time different inside than the Maslin.
Several years ago you could by new Maslin locks for 2 bucks.
And you got what you paid for. ::
