They are indeed thankless little beggars.

Yes, sometimes.

I know one thing. The weather forecast is not favorable for squirrel hunting for the next 10 days or so at least. Lots of cold temps. So, if a nice warm spell comes in for a few days, the squirrels should be out. Almost always the temps warm up around the first week or two of February. That also coincides with a lot of the mating season here as well. This ole boy is going to think positive.

... Doesn't snow here often. If that comes to pass, there will be a mass conniption. The squirrels will be laughing at the human spectacle.

Itā€™s cold and windy here. I havenā€™t seen a squirrel at my feeder for two days. I went for a walk at the end of the day. We have enough snow to see tracks. I walked up through the closest spot I hunt here at home. Now I took 3-4 squirrels out of this piece of woods but left plenty. I saw very few tracks. Theyā€™re holed up and so am I til this weather breaks. The long range weather doesnā€™t improve much. I just have to be patient. Hang in there fellas!

I believe Friday is going to be the warmest day. Low 30's. If the wind would just lay down some, we'd be in business.

Go get your bread, milk, and eggs early Hammer. Closer it gets, people are gonna go bonkers. Every $h!t head with a lift kit is gonna stall traffic. Good luck.

@smo I remember that snow; coulda sworn 1964, tho. Wasn't it the legendary "big one"? It's the most snow on record for this area. Nobody had 4X4's then; total unpreparedness to the nth degree with no prior warning in those days; we were trapped in our "holler"; sound of trees snapping from ice coating, etc.

YH, you maybe rightā€¦. But I thought 63ā€™.

Dad measured 18ā€ in the road in front of our house..

Iā€™ve seen over 10ā€ in that area more than once..

Then there was the BIG Ice Storm of 93ā€™ā€¦

I'd rather have a foot of show than an eighth of an inch of ice.

Youins just hunker down Hammer. Show isn't a problem, it's the yahoos on the roads that are the cause of most headaches, and fender aches.
