Can anyone recall the name of this movie. I think it is based on Hugh Glass, its about an expedition in winter up a river. One of the members is maulded by a bear and left for dead,he survives and seeks revenge.

Richard Harris was the mauled vengeful guy, John Huston his target and one time benefactor. A GREAT movie from the early 70's, maybe even 1097 itself. I believe the name of the movie was "A Man in the Wilderness". I'll check around to verify that. Man, I'd love to see that movie right around now myself, it's a great terrific winter movie.

Thanks guys ,our state vous chairman and myself have been trying to recall that one for ages ,we both saw it when it came out and could not remember the title. :) :hatsoff:  :)

I liked it for the most part. Richard Harris was one of my favorite actors and always liked it when John Huston came out from behind the camera. He was quite the character.

The link to IMDB that Swampy posted usually has Info on what formats the Movies are available on.
This is a great movie. I first saw it and another RH movie "A Man Called Horse" at a double feature drive in at Great Bend, KS years ago.

Could be I have the names mixed up.

Your original post is about "Man in the Wilderness" Staring Richard Harris. Thats the one you asked about.

He also did "The Man called Horse" series of movies. "The Man called Horse" is worth getting also but I think they over did it with the sequels.

Isn't that the story based loosely off of Jim Bridger when he was beginning as a young man and left his colleague for dead out on the prairie?
The story is loosely based on the life of Hugh Glass. It stars Richard Harris as Zachary Bass and John Huston as Captain Henry.
Yes Bridger was one of two left behind to wait until he died to burry him. They left him to elude indians.Bass later foregave Bridger.
The film was shot in Andalucia, Spain. Not technically a spaghetti western.

I thought this movie was more realistic overall than Jeremiah Johnson , not as exciting but more believeable. The camera work was very good.

Here is a link to a short clip from the movie - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JYnzEpSFxzo

 I have a copy of the Movie "A Man In The Wilderness". I found it at Walmart. It was a 2 movie pack deal. A great movie with little dialogue. The guns don't look to good; like they went cheap on firearms for the movie. :(

Thanks guys ,but I am in Australia, so I will look for it down here ,may be a long hunt though .
