I agree.
With enough luck that shot could kill a deer but my skepticism is directed towards the people who are new to black powder arms.

About the last thing I want to hear is someone saying, "I read on the MLF that a Remington C&B pistol is a good deer gun and will kill a deer at 200 yards, so I got one and shot a deer with it at 180 yards!
It didn't kill him but maybe next time?"

Zonie, i couldn't agree more. this kind of hairy chested urban - legend stuff gives the whole blackpowder community a bad name.

As regards you previous post about the amount of holdover, thanks for splashing the cold water of fact on this silliness.

Theoretically possible? Maybe, but as a practical matter? No WAY!

30-35grs 4F was my though also. More like a hand grenade and if I remember from back in the Army, the effective killing radius of a hand grenade is about 15m. If I was around that guy who made that statement, I hope I had on a tall pair of boots because the BS is pretty deep.

The first edition Lyman BP Handbook does indeed list .44 revolver loads with 37 grains of 4f and the pressures listed are not at all alarming. Lots of people like Triple Seven powder in revolvers because it gives higher velocity than any blackpowder load. I haven't seen pressure test data for T-7 but suspect the higher velocity comes with much higher pressure.
As to 200 yards, well personally I wouldn't try a 200 yard shot on game with an iron sighted 30/06.

Elmer Keith is back from the grave.

A drug test is in order for Elmer, seems simple to me, along with targets to follow.

As I said in my prior reply to this post there are people who can do amazing things with a handgun and Bob Mundon is obviously one of them. I would make a wager that none of us here could do what he did and more importantly I would wager that he wouldn't take a 200 yard shot at a living thing with a CB revolver even with his skill. Remember he gets paid for what he does and they rarely show the number of shots it took him to get dialed in on a target at that range. I once watched him pop a balloon albeit fixed to a steel plate to splatter the bullet, at 600 yards with a two inch .38. I'm guessing that he didn't connect with his first shot. That being said, I don't think the ammo factories could make enough ammo for me to ever connect with a target at that distance! :haha:

I believe that is comparing apples to oranges...a cap and ball is a total different ballgame to a high velocity modern center fire pistol....bottom line a round ball is a 100 yard projectile....200 yards...no way....not to mention the guy is a professional shooter that probably shoots 100s of rounds a day to make those kind of shots... :bull: :bull:
