Looks like I might go down into the shop , and go through my toys, ( m/l rifle parts collection) , and pick out a gun to scratch build , and give it to myself , for Christmas , I have one Williamsburg Gun shop pre-carved stock ,I've been eyeing , made from a highly spauld , curly , and light soft pc. of wood. It has termite tunnels ,and holes to fill , and should be a shocker when finished. I'll reduce the .50 cal. barrel to the minimum 38" qualification , so it can be said ,it's a longrifle ,and not a transition gun. I don't have a gun collection , so including my deer rifle , that would make two.
I was infected with a desire to use termite wood on builds , ever since Chuck Dixon and I discussed a Lehigh rifle hanging in the rafters of the store. The Lehigh rifle Chuck had , was a poor boy type , no butt plate , two r/r thimbles ,w/ no entry thimble ,and no end cap. Can't remember the trigger guard , and the barrel was a.50 cal.or larger , and minimum length to be classed as a long rifle. Odd rifles like that one gets my juices flowing , and causes me to build a copy of it. The rifle evokes a picture of a poor frontiersman , with no way to feed his family ,and needing a gun to get minimum sustenance , and protection . Love it........Merry Christmas to all........oldwood

Already in house or en route:
1. An Awl from Two Feathers.
2. A Shooting Bag from a SASS lady, Sacramento Johnson.

Wish List:
3. A killer deal on a Lehigh flinter, but folks here know their value, so I'll keep saving my coins.
4. Good weather to enjoy the things I have.

Y'all have a Merry Christmas!
Keep your powder dry, and don't shoot your eye out, Kid!

SATISFACTION! That is what I got for Christmas today.

A young man contacted me today wanting to know if he could make payments on the 50 cal and the extra stock and parts I had for sale that were listed here and also locally. Before we discussed this, I invited him over to take a look at it.

A very polite young man with an inordinate interest in the gun. A working kid, about 20 with a young wife and baby with him. Asked if he could put $50 down and $50 every two weeks until paid for.

I told him how about $40 and he just take it all and Merry Christmas. He argued with me that he didn't want welfare. I told him he didn't want this old man trying to kick his butt before Christmas. Besides, think of it as a pay it forward. When he is in position he can do the same some day.

Gave him a half a can of Pyrodex with it and sent him on his way.

Even a grumpy old Marine can play Santa every now and then!olentzero.jpeg
