I'm trying to decide on whether to purchase the queen anne or the charleville pistol kit. There are issues with both. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

No! I'm not familiar with this sight. I've just gotten back into kits again and wanted to do a flint, pirate type pistol and don't have much funds. I'll check it out. Thanks!

I would recommend the Pedersoli Queen Anne . I built one with good results , although I did have to make the pan deeper and cone the exterior of the vent , to make it shoot more reliably . Zonie has a post on how to make a ventliner for it , which includes a working drawing (thanks again Zonie :hatsoff: ) which I might do when I have the time to do it . The kit I got fit together well and was pretty easy to do . I also think the Queen Anne looks like a pirate like pistol , arrh matey

Patch Knife, tks for the advise. I was thinking the same thing, although I do like the design of the Charleville pistol. But this one has a problem with the frizzen fit to the pan and the ram rod supposedly falls out after a while.

You are more than welcome to my advice , Black Bob , be it good , bad or otherwise :haha: . I like the looks of the Charleville too , but I don't have one , so I can't say yea or nay about it . The Queen Anne doesn't have a ramrod , but that wasn't a problem for me , since I don't use the rods that come with a pistol anyway . I use pistol loading rods that Track of the Wolf sells . They are really handy , and are less than $10 each . You may want to check'em out .

About 9 months ago, I decided to order a Charleville pistol from Dixie, even though I had read several posts about the crappy quality of the gun (another example of Palmettos low standards).

My reason for wanting it was because this is the pistol that Americas First Military Pistol was based on. North made a few modifications to the design but the end results were close to being the same.

Dixie had the finished gun in stock but said they would have to back order the Kit. I said go ahead and back order it.
7 months later I had still not heard a word from them so I cancelled out my order.
Maybe my order finally arrived by now but I wouldn't count on it.

This pistol, as I said has several old posts about little things like the pan with a 1/16 inch gap, very bad trigger pull, metal to wood fits that can't be fixed etc.
Palmetto seems to have a habit of producing this type of quality (or should I say, Lack of Quality).

The Queen Anne is produced by Pedersoli, another Italian company. Pedersoli however has a reputation for fairly high quality and several of our members have built this kit with good success.

The Queen Anne's only real failure in my mind is the design of the touch hole.
As supplied, the touch hole is about .050 in diameter and it is over .280 long before it gets into the powder in the barrel.
Because it is so small, powder doesn't seem to blow back into the hole far enough to be hit by the pans powder flash. See the post here in the Pistol Forum. It will lead you to the Post in the Builders Bench Forum which describes how to fix this touch hole problem. If you have several drill bits and a tap it only costs about 8 cents for the screw to make the vent liner.
My results with the modification proved to be great.
Zonie :)

PS: Here's a link to the vent fix:

Yes I read the procedure and I will try it if I buy this kit. Thanks for the heads-up.
