I have been batting around the idea of having a custom flinter made for me, and have narrowed it down to a couple of potential builders. I have an old retired logger around here that has some exceptional planks in his barn that have been air drying for many years. I have considered sorting through these blanks for the one I want and sending it to the builder of choice, but I'm not sure what a minimum size blank would be. I want a PA long gun in .54, flint of course, and although it doesn't have to be 100% PC, I want a good handling rifle that is of the correct size.

I'm sorry if this sounds amatuerish, but any help would be appriciated. Thanks!

And I will add.... Look at the Curve in the grain where you want the wrist as it is most important to make a solid rifle. Pretty grainn down mean nothing when the wrist breaks from the Wrong grain there. (IMHO)
