I wasn't sure where to post this question or even what it is. I call it a gun sock. What do you guys transport your longrifle in? The other half of this question is, does anyone have any destructions on how to make one. I would like to make one out of leather and another out of a wool blanket. Thanks for your help.

Gun socks are just that, long tube socks that you put a gun into, some treat the sock with anti-rust silicon sprays...

Now a gun blanket is a soft gun case made of a wool blanket or leather, with fringe to boot...

I know The Log Cabin Shop has patterns for making a blanket case, not really that hard, just fold it over and whip stitch it along the seam...

I store my longrifles in modern gunsocks, but when traveling with one to an event I use a wool blanket cover. I am not sure that a cover is historically correct for the mid 18th century, so I leave it in the vehicle. The blanket cover is easy to make--if you have a blanket you don't mind cutting up, but I bought mine from Brad Emig of Cabin Creek.

Thanks for the replies. MM you're alright :applause:. I don't care what Maxiball says about you :haha:. Thanks Mike for the mention about Brad. I gots to make a point to go see him since he is only about 20 miles from me. I have some old deerskins. I guess I just got to bite the round ball and just try makin a gun blanket. If the first one ain't right, no one will know but me. I do like the idea of adding fringes or other attachments.
