A Hogan is a tradational permanant shelter built from logs and/or stones chinked with grass/mud. It's quite weather tight and a stone hearth can be added for winter use and cooking.

Not portable but can be made with what you can find in the woods; cool in the summer and warm in the winter.

I'd love to try one of those I like the idea of a fire inside.But it looks like a lot of poles.Do you use a ground cloth inside? or just enough to lay on.I personely use a wedge with a cot,Very easy to put up...Mark
 
A ten by ten diamond is very nice and you can have a fire out front of it and is very easy to set up.Not much privacy and you have to sleep on the ground....Mark
