It's kinda discouraging when I find something in the classifieds that looks good, price,ok. Then the "I don't want alaskans money" however its worded.
Just looked at a ball bag for sale here, was going to buy it till the "lower 48 only"...A flat rate box does not cost any more to send it anywhere in alaska as sending it to Anytown, Kansas

For large boxes such as a rifle, the cost of shipping is a killer. I shipped one to Washington State (from North Carolina) at my expense. I cant afford to do that any more! If the buyer offers to cover shipping, even splitting the cost perhaps, I agree with SDSmlf (above) that contacting the seller would be an excellent thing to do in this regard.

If you were trying to get something that would fit in a Flat Rate box (so not a long gun), then I'd point that option out to the seller; might work!

To be honest, I didn't know the Flat Rate was the same to AK or HI. Never thought about it, just assumed the greater distance would mean higher shipping cost.

I specify preice to the lower 48 when I list something followed by Alaska & Hawaii will be higher due to added shipping costs. Heck, It cost me 40 dollars shipping just for a barrel to one of our western states. Hate to think what it would be to Alaska or Hawaii.

Please accept my appology for this error. Originally I would say "the lower 48 and AK", but somehow I stopped doing so but will once again add this.

With my customers, I include shipping to the lower 48. If I'm shipping internationally I include what I would normally pay to ship and ask them to make up the difference. I haven't shipped to AK or HI but if it cost more to do that the offer would be the same.

And there's that thing..."how bad do you want it"??
Shipped a Fowler to MS. Priority Mail. 6' long box cost $120.00+ Insured.
I paid the shipping " included in the selling price".
Again, how bad do you want it.
I know lots of folks won't ship to California. I live here and don't like it either. :(
Priority Flat Rate is your friend. ;)

Living here I get that it costs more to ship, and I'm ok with covering additional costs,
but, if a seller lists a fowler for sale, $2100.00+shipping costs, then why say 48 only?

Sorry for the rant, been putting up with this for years.

have a blessed day

I've shipped a lot of knives to AK. in small and medium flat rate boxes and the cost is the same as to any other state. The last time I checked, Alaska and Hawaii WERE states!
I feel bad that you got jilted by this wording oversight, but I'm sure asking about it with this new knowledge will yield better results?
God bless:

As of 1 Sept 2022 UPS and Fedex will not ship unmentionable's at all without 2 FFLS involved. Shipper and receiver. Got in it with UPS shipping a TC Hawken when they said i had to prove it wasn't a "firearm". This was at a HUB not a drop off. Luckily i had pics of it on my phone. Also said this applies to pick ups. Think Feds got to them big time.

Forgot to add that some big net sites now have a spot to indicate what states you won't ship to. This auto blocks bids from those states. CA, AK, HI and NJ are common choices.

Being that I ship to Alaska just about every week. Its the same postage as the lower 48 thru the post office. UPS is a little higher in price but they have over night etc.

Having gotten away with the new size surcharges (and the shift from common carriers) i am afraid USPS will raise rates again.
