Larry Zones make the castings he is up in years and in talking to Tim (R.E.Davis) he has been trying to buy the business to no avail. The early Germanic lock is the one that I used for my Jaeger which is on hold. I brought the last one at Dixon's gun shop.I've been checking on the R.E. Davis web page, and
seven of their locks are labeled in red On Hold, including their French fusil lock. What's up with that? Anybody know? I had been hoping to use that lock in a French trade gun of one sort or another. I hope this is just some sort of a supply hiccup due to R&D and not a portent
I read in the latest "Muzzle Blasts" that the R.E. There you go! That's why we ask our friends. The lock is no longer made, therefore you won't get one... How I know, I personally spoke with him.
At the moment he's trying to source another builder for this particular lock. I literally live minutes away from him and he's a spectacular guy to deal with. It's nothing "up" with him or his business. He takes care of his customers, that's a fact.
On the other hand understand if a maker in this hobby decides to stop making something, it likely will effect everyone. It's not a huge market, therefore supply and demand can be a pain at times.
What Germanic part do you need?I called Davis(before the Log Cabin sale) for a Germanic lock part a while back. They said that Pete Allan has the molds for that lock and others, and he is having health problems. That is why some of them are back-ordered. Maybe they can sort out the supply problem and get things moving again.
