I thought it was really a good vidio of the action, question what do they use in the jaw. Is it a regluar flint or something different.
thanks :)

Pitchy,
I believe that was a real pyrite in the dog. But he had it so short that I don't see how it fit down into that deep narrow pan! Also he was having some delay lighting his pan on some of the shots. However, I just never seem to tire of seeing one of them light! Especially that last one in some form of slow motion.
Thanks for posting it.

Your welcome gents, where does one find pyrite ?
I still want to make a wheellock

Volatpluvia knows...

My suggestion was new-age or fairy shops, which often have crystals. Get large cubic pyrite crystals, because fine grained pyritic rock with quartz grains or whatever mixed in will be very abrasive and unreliable. The black/brown 'devils dice' are not acceptable, they are iron-bearing crud replacing pyrite in the rock.

My first thought about building one was to use a die grinder wheel and a piece of steel instead of pyrite, both easily replaceable :hmm:

Pitchy,
Horst and McCann have pyrites. They work. I, too, have thought of putting an abrasive wheel on the lock and putting good chisel steel in the jaws of the dog and throwing sparks like a grinding wheel. Perhaps I can find such a wheel before making the lock for my pistole? :rotf: :rotf:
