I hold the front trigger and cock the hammer as soon as I have the deer within my killing zone. I always use the set trigger, but dont set it until I shoulder the rifle. I've killed a lot of deer with that rifle and never had one pay any attention to the gun cocking. The woods are not quiet. If you listen, there is all sorts of rustling, wind blowing, things falling, and the deer dont pay it any mind.
I have sat in the woods and just watched for hours. Squirrels will run about, birds fly about, animals walk through. The thing that will spook them is a steady noise. If you listen to the woods, and the animals, they make a noise, then stop, then go, then stop. If when you walk, you walk a little bit then stop then go then stop, you can walk right up on animals. I guess they think the sound is another animal. It is, a hungry, well armed animal.
