Don’t know a ton about how well leather holds up, but why do I never come across land pattern genuine slings? Would be cool to come across a real white leather sling
 
In the early 1970's , I needed some cheap leather slings to use on some of my hunting rifles. A local supplier of WW2 , and WW1 used military accouterments, had an assortment of original 1936 era , military rifle slings from European sources. Examining the condition of the near 50 yr. old leather at the time, found the leather to be in only poor condition , though it looked serviceable. ,and new in it's original wrappers,the leather had deteriorated to near unusable condition.
If this only 50+ yr. old leather was in the poor condition , a 200 + yr. old musket sling would be near dust condition. LOL Have a replacement made.
