where can I get round ball lead?

Running low on round ball lead I noticed that buffalo arms co. has for 1.76 a pound and you buy it in 9 pound increments. Any body else know of a good source out there to purchase lead I need it as close to pure as possible I dont need any wheel weights I have plenty of them; and I also can't afford to buy alot maybe 30 to 50 pounds is all if the price is right thanks to you all if anyone could help.

Check with roofers in your area. Many times when roofing a home they remove the "plumber's jacks" from the vents and replace them. The lead in the jacks is butter soft, especially if it's an older roof. They may will give you some lead. I just had a roofing job and the jacks from my roof weighed more than 25 pounds.

found a guy there selling pure lead for $1 a pound, 65 pounds per flat rate box. i ordered 65 pounds at $1.16 a pound shipped, this beats the hell outa local prices!

whats even better is he already has em in muffin ingots so they will fit in my little lee melter.

My dentist saves all of the little xray lead plates he usse.. his secretary calls me about once a month and says "come get thelead out for a laug..he avoids havng to use a hazardous material pic up, and once fluxed, I have a good source of lead..I haven't used an bought lead i nthe past trhee years.Hank

Also. I have gone to old shooting range and dig the led out of the ground.

Wheel weights are not pure lead, they are a hardened alloy of lead and not the best lead for round balls. If it is all you can get, it will work but pure lead is always better when you can get it.

Sources for scrap lead seem to be drying up. Batteries don't have that much lead in them, to risk acid burns etc.

Lead shows up in the strangest places.

One guy I know lucked into an old derelict sail boat on a sand bar in the Chesapeake after a storm last Sept. The skeg had almost 300 pounds of pure lead in it.

My brother went to visit the demolition of the old 1940's elementary school we went to. He noticed the huge window sashes were connected to counterweights made of pure lead bars about 2 inch x 2 inch x 24 inches. Two for each window. He picked up a few hundred pounds from the rubble.

go to any metal scrap yard. get some lead eves trough material. I bought some 50 lbs here in Prince George Canada and paid 65 cents a lb. dont use Wheel weights to hard.

They are increasingly made of zinc.
They work well for RBs in many rifles but may load hard in barrels with wide lands.

If you know of any shops that do the stained glass windows, that lead is not pure but still is very soft. They always generate scraps.

What about shooting ranges? I have a few near where I live and I never thought about them. Does anyone know what type of lead (pure or alloy) is used inside a fully jacketed bullet? If it is pure lead it would be easy to melt down the spent bullets and seperate the jackets (I think).
