Where have all the new .45's gone

Hey all,
Ive been looking for a new .45 Hawken. When I started my search I thought it would be easy, the last time I did it it was very easy- kits were every kinda. CVA and Thompson especially. I guess I'm showing my age. But I looked through some of the newest posts of the rifles for sale, dont see any. AM I doing something wrong? I cant find any. Fact is searching with MSN or Google only turns up one possible offer. I had no idea it'd be so hard.
I guess I am wondering what happened? I see so much modern stuff its unreal, but I want traditional and seems like that caliber is extremely rare now?

The first link has several Hawken models. I believe the Bridger is a Gemmer with brass furnishings. The Gemmer is the same rifle as the old Lyman Great Plains rifle.
That Pedersoli looks nice but that price, oof. Plus, that's close to custom gun money and it most certainly won't be that once out of the box.

Couldn't find any Hawken kits. Dixie Gun Works has some Pedersoli kits in .45 that are percussion and tradtional. I've considered the Scout Rifle one before I got into flintlocks.

Only a handful on GB. Sellers didn't post pics of the bores and condition issues can be seen especially on the TC. Red flags = walk away slowly while guarding thy wallet.

@Brad Clark the "Hawken" or Plains Rifle is probably not a good configuration to expect many 45 cal guns. When you start looking to the southern style and late PA and Ohio styles there are more 45's available.

Flintlock is popular these days but the later guns had more percussion than flint.

I snagged a very nice and good shooting Pedersoli Penn Dixie off GB a while back, really nice rifle and got it for about half list. Another one to watch for is one called the Kentuckian. Got one of those here recently, nice little rifles that turn up on GB at times.

Awwwe. I thought it was the new .25. Was going to put that to the test whether I want to or not in a matter of weeks.

Try gun shows. They are out there, you will find one. Keep looking, good luck, everything sold today seems to be .50.

I picked up a Pedersoli Pennsylvania Dixie flintlock in .45 back in 2013 at one of our muzzle shoots for $225 and it is a great shooter.



First target while working up a load for it. Not bad for these old eyes, prior to my cataract surgery.
BTW the target says Kentucky because that is what I thought it was, until I contacted Pedersoli with the srn.

If someone were asking for my advice I would tell them to go with 50 cal as there is soooo much more "accessories' available for that cal. However I'm sure you have a good reason for wanting a 45 and if that's what you really wants you might even post a wanted ad here. good luck

I suspect there’ll be several .45’s appear in the classifieds section before long. Probably won’t be kits, but there’ll be some .45’s. Give it a day or so and you might find what you’re looking for right here.

I love my investarm bridger Hawken, it’s a 45 and is very accurate.
